So Im going to look into the cost of renting an RV close to the site this year. do the math and compare the pros and cons, then decide...I like camping in a tent...its camping, being in an RV is nice but that's not really camping, we used the fridge for food which was awesome..and the occasional AC cool off...other than that....the RV served no real big purpose other than the occasional sleep.....does anybody have a ball park figure on the rental for the days of the fest>>
I think doctor said the one he and his dad rented was about $800. I suppose it depends on size, though.

We went VIP tent rental this year and I have to say, I'd do it again. Not even considering the VIP part of it, having a tent all set up when we got there was nice. Being able to just walk away from it Monday a.m. was priceless.
Tent big enough to stand up and walk around in. Queen size mattress(brought our own sheets). Or 2 twins.
A little more elbow room with your neighbors. Some of the car camping seemed really tight.
Cons-Don"t expect the tent to look like it does on the website.
All of the tents looked well-used. Minor mold spots- Our floor wasn't attached to the walls in spots(duct tape handy).
As for the VIP part- Welcome BBQ on Thurs.-Brunch on Sunday-Late night munchies every night.(food was OK but served in a shaded, air conditioned tent with beer that was $2 cheaper (adds up)- and the best value... Clean, air conditioned bathrooms. And showers. sometimes hot.
How much would you pay to not have to set foot in a full porta-potty? In the blazing sun. For 4 days.
And you get to walk right to the front of the stage. Although the sound was better on the viewing platforms.

About $80. That's what it cost for a shit/shower tent and a bucket potty.
Do you work at most of them? I'm considering (after corrective surgery on my ankle) do that to get to more fest. Most of 'em don't have quite the tight lineup that Lockn does.
Well, there's your problem <ducks shoe thrown by Sue>.

My aging bladder is working on a 1 beer=1 pee ratio and it was nice to have clean bathrooms at the back of main stage area. The one time I used a porta potty, the urinal was clogged and 1/2" from overflowing. Didn't bother me but I couldn't help but feeling for the next female that had to A)sit on the nasty seat and B) have the overflowing urinal inches from her head.

Worfrat-
I volunteer at Floydfest, but pay to go to the others. I always buy early bird and save a lot of money that way-the most I've paid is $90 and the cheapest was $30. Most of them don't charge for camping. All of them are within a 3 hour drive or less so gas isn't too bad. I have Bonnaroo on my bucket list and probably will do it next year--I ain't gettin any younger--but will definitely volunteer there.

you get nicer amenities and calmer camping. But that's as a solo. The 1-3 extra people in RV are paying $200 each v. $700 each as VIP.
Fuel to drive an RV can be a factor if you have distances involved.
They were charging $80 to pump out the RV's this year ($30 last year?) and in one case they half-emptied it. Then someone had to hang around
waiting for the truck, missing the music. Humping in fresh water and slow-pouring it into the tank (get a pump) was a pain.
So the RV folks had a number of inconveniences for the convenience. There's the opportunity cost of having paid for music you aren't
seeing.
The RV folks recommend getting the biggest RV just for the sake of a bigger holding tank and thus fewer pump-outs to save time and money.

mcjeff was suggesting that the group rental on a RV with about 5 others was the way to go. Financially it seems right and at 52 the comfort is attractive. However, I think VIP tickets are worth trying and was fairly happy sleeping on the soft ground of triangle stage the one night I stayed in. Plus my brother in law said he wants the room off site so that would put me hunting for five people to share an RV. Probably will go with tent and VIP next time but am still considering options. Don't have to decide this until tomorrow. Your discussion helps me lean that way thanks!
