Advice: don't get your hopes up

These are things I've mulled over as I anticipate whether to try for Lockn 2016. Me, having only been to the 1st one in 2013, the only thing you mention I'm skeptical about is searches improving unless there's more staff to expedite them and more point of entry. I live in VA and I remember that first year reading articles as the buildup grew from initial announcement, the local people quoted for their misgivings what to expect from a festival this scale. Local enforcement very much in sync w/ resident concerns, and statewide rules regarding alcohol and such might differ around the country -- I've never been to any festival but this one so I am unsure of, for ex., Bonnaroo.. . But if I gauge correctly, this remote part of Virginia with Falwell (LIberty) University nearby is not seeming likely to me for making exceptions in their stance about regulating what's brought in to a high volume venue camped out in their area!

I have to say I've camped places with latrine/ outhouse degraded quality and was expecting Lockn 2013 to be similar but what I encountered that year in the porta-lets was beyond odious, the worst I could remember ever. Earplugs yes (for sleeping through overnight noisy neighbors) - - probably nose plugs as well next time for the inevitable stench!

And your observation of logistics w/ everyone arriving at once, which I regarded reading about since I didn't attend this time, but it seems to me to have been unavoidable. Having said that: I loathe waiting in lines in traffic, especially if it is hot outside. I will not stop looking forward to another Lockn as long as I'm up for adventure (like I said, it was my first and only major music festival) but I will stop considering it if it appears to be more of a chore than makes the fun worthwhile.

in my singular experience, the search was on point. dude opened all the doors, dug through a little bit, front and back. told me candidly that he was not looking for THAT (he was more explicit), and that he was a fan. i said no glass, no weapons. he said have a good time. i find that being friendly and welcoming right up front helps every time.

Personally I waited over 6 hours to get in, it was a disorganized mess. When we got up to the search the guy in front of us had a cooler full of glass. Security took about a dozen bottles out, stood there for a bit talking with each other and then put them all back in. They came to me and I said something like I don't have anything like that guy and the guy said ok and put a check on my window. We're there some logistical issues, yes, is that what I'm going to remember about the festival, not a chance. What stands out is the music, it was exceptional. Been listening through some of the sets and they are stunning Mad Dogs and Englishmen, Jefferson Airplane, JGB and the list goes on. My hopes were up for the music, and the music far exceeded my hopes.

...and as far as I know they were returned Monday afternoon.

Just saying, Lockn' did refund my camping which I feel is more than fair. I'm definitely more a happy camper, but not sure I'd do it again (until I see the next lineup)

When I arrived Friday I entered at GaRv, told me to park along the fence at the top of the ridge.There was a problem in the rv lot. Told me I could camp there if I wanted. I told them I paid for electric. Talked to a few people and ended up getting in line for the Ga Rv entrance on my own. One guy asked me if I had any glass or weapons. That was the search. When I finally arrive at the campground, there were plenty of electric sites and was all weekend!
