Had a hankering to hear AND see Mikey Houser play the guitar tonight after listening to a few favorite 1990s Panic shows on file...went through the YouTube video catalog when I got home:

1987:

1993 w/ Warren: (always thought Mikey was an underrated collaborator - he could weave in and out of guitarists that had higher peaks and valleys to their play) no video, but man...

1996: Last year of Mikey standing

2001:

6/28/12: Beginning of Mikey's last run at Red Rocks and a few days before his final show...

@blueindian I always thought his guitar playing was best described as like smoke. Not sultry and husky smokey but more like smoke off a candle weaving and smoothly flowing and being able to fill all the spaces bigger clunkier guitars couldn't find their way into. Thanks for the vids.

Your description fits my reflection on Mikey more eloquently and square on than I could have said myself.
The biggest surprise I had early in my Panic journey was hearing him play acoustic and realizing it wasn't just machines bending notes in that way for him, even in the most raw setting it was his unique style.

That is what I do with all the older stuff. Zeppelin, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, etc. I feel like those artists put it out as an album to be listened to as it is presented.

I don't listen to a ton of newer albums so don't really do the same as much with them. Maybe I should though because I love listening to entire albums for the older stuff and have found a ton of lesser known songs that I love because of that.
