Spent the better part of my evening chilling to Foundation Of Funk. But, decided to end the night with a few samples of Spafford. These guys are quite the contradiction. Clearly a jam band. But the guitar progressions are complex and they are constantly shifting meter. It's a very busy laid back vibe.

Try this one on. "Super Session" Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield and Steve Stills (yes, Steve). This was the version I learned on guitar in 7th grade but I didn't have a wah wah pedal.

To my knowledge this was one of the earlier rock artist jam albums, similar to the jazz projects. I probably still have the album.

And speaking of Donavan (were we?) that clip from Steve Earle Lockn 2 has him playing There is a Mountain on mandolin and saying in 7th grade he was thrown out of a bluegrass band for playing Donovan. I guess the Allman Brothers settled that score.
