Saturday I heard the new song by Allison Krause and Robert Plant; it was called Christmas Lights IIRC. Very nice. (ETC: The Light of Christmas Day) from a movie soundtrack Love the Coopers

What, you haven't heard it yet? 'cuz it was just released Saturday, bitches. I'll find a link to the radio show so you can hear it, too.

ETA here's the whole show. Incredible tunes here including new release from the Basement Tapes (Picture of Johanna) and Billy Gibbons' new album, also new takes on Sunshine Superman and Dancing in the Dark.

Lately, Allman Brothers Band at Meriwether Post 7/19/1979. Some of my friends went and someone got a tape, possibly soundboard. It was passed around at school back then so it's probably 20th generation before it was moved to disc recently. Even has a couple of drag points for nostalgia. But what great music they played! Female singer was Bonnie Bramlett? Was Toler on guitar with Dickie? Gregg sounded and played great.

I think this was the same tour when I saw them at William and Mary Hall; I know it was summer but can't peg the year.

Sugar Magnolia after the NYE countdown was standard. They didn't do it every year but they did it most years. They did it at the one NYE that I attended (12/31/1988).

If I recall correctly--I was probably 14-15--I saw Foghat open for Blue Oyster Cult open for Deep Purple. Now that was worth the $5.50 price of admission!

I saw them at least twice, maybe 3x. One of my favorite bands back then, especially before "Smoke on the Water" put them in the Three Chord Rock box.* I have a cool album they did with the London Philharmonic. I like their "Child in Time", and "Lazy" is one cranking tune--good for driving.

I think their lead singer, Ian Gillian IIRC? sang "Jesus" on the JC Superstar album.

*Although that, Wild Thing and Locomotive Breath gave a lot of us young mediocre guitar players a song we could play right!

Yes, they played the Lincoln theater saturday night. A lot of their recent shows have shown up on the Archive, but the only thing I've seen from that one is a cell phone video.

I cannot attest to whether you are hallucinating or not, but the Mandolin player, Andrew Hendryx, left Yarn at the end of May. He is still playing as andrew Hendryx and friends, but mostly in the connecticut area from what I can tell. He was very talented and a large part of their sound, so I was worried they would not be as good. It has been a big change in their music, as the solos which were dominated by Mandolin, are now being played by the very talented Rod Hohl. They have gone from sounding like an Americana band with a heavy bluegrass influence to sounding more like a Rock band with a dose of Americana in there. Both were/are very good. Go see them when you get a chance.

Listened to Lessons and Carols broadcast from St. Johns Cathedral in England but during the readings, visions of Monty Python danced through my head, so it did not have the intended effect.
