So my friends and I are coming from NJ and it looks like it's a little over 5 hours to get there. I want to leave around 4 am Thursday morning but another guy going with me wants to leave at noon on Thursday.
Once you get in line how long does it take until your in the venue?
Thoughts?

read the history of access on this forum. Many different turns and each year has been different.
But as is the case at festivals, there is always a huge crush at the first opening of all the early arrivals, which then moves like a pig through a python. And it doesn't take much to block the whole process up (for example, there are some really old and crappy RV's limping in, and if one breaks down it can't be moved out of the way).
I see wisdom in a later arrival.

The year I arrived Thursday at 11 am I was trapped in the Field of Broken Dreams for 11 hours. The two years since I've been arriving about three hours before gates, and that has worked pretty well.

Coming from Delaware and it was 5 hours in ideal weekday conditions. Left at 8:30 am, hit baltimore at 9:45, thru dc by 11. Leaving at noon and you re screwed.pulling at 7 pm at the earliest.

My experience from last year was almost 5 hours from the time we got in line till the time we parked. We camped at the brewery(awesome management) on the rained out day(Thurs) and when the word that cars were lining up to get in to Lockn at 5 A.M. we decided to sleep in. The campground pretty much emptied out and we left at 10:30 A.M. We ended up 6 cars behind fellow campers who left 5 hours before us. Needless to say they were extremely pissed.

Last year was an anomaly due to the storm. Can't really use that as a reference. Instead of people coming at different times over a couple of days everyone was trying to get in at the same time. The year before things were relatively smooth for all and I expect this year to be even better, barring any unforeseen circumstances.My experience from last year was almost 5 hours from the time we got in line till the time we parked. Again, too many variables to answer accurately. It depends on how zealous the searcher is, how fresh/tired they are, and just their overall attitude. Sometimes it's just a cursory glance, sometimes there's a short fishing expedition. Sometimes there's cops, sometimes there's not. Sometimes there's dogs, sometimes there's not.How thoroughly do they go through your car?
Take the proscription against glass seriously, because they will. Same with knives, fireworks, large propane tanks and charcoal. Don't try to sneak in a nitrous tank, because of the rules, the law, and the fact that nitrous is for a$$holes. If you don't think you can survive on one case each (keeping in mind you can't take it to the stage), don't make it obvious that you have a lot of beer. Don't look like you're vending anything. Having your car Tetris-ed right full can be a help. As far as anything else goes, if you don't already know how to be cool, I dunno if we can help you.
Things are a little different every year. Probably by design. Hope this is of some help to you.

Dogs? Seriously? I don't drink at all, so I'm not worried about that. All I want is to bring 1/4-1/2 oz of MJ for personal use. Normally this wouldn't be too hard, but dogs? I've seen em with my very own eyes. Pretty sure it's mostly window-dressing, though. If a dog was gonna alert, it'd alert for just about everyone.

Ah, but then again, no one would suspect that you would tape it to your forehead. It might be the very last place they would look. The OP should DEFINITELY try that!
