Traffic will be better this year compared to last. Some entering in Wednesday, more people trickling in on Thrusday throughout the day, and Friday. Last year we all had to get in on Friday causing the seen.

Not trying to over-analyze the strategy, but I don't think these folks think in one year increments.

Oteil keeps hinting at a Allman revival too. But seems like everyone could keep this as a project. They built a pretty fair catalog of songs for a one-off tour.
Plus mccjeff called it. That bumps cred karma way up there.

Lockn’ co-founder Dave Frey said 50,000 is about the maximum number he’d want to see for a camping event such as Lockn’, but he could see much larger one-day turnouts for noteworthy acts. The field at Oak Ridge can reasonably hold 135,000 people, he said.

I think it's fine that Ween is a headliner, but don't think they really need two sets.
I cannot compute what you just said... lol

But college isn't affordable as it was when I was hoofing it 20+ yrs ago and having to be choosy even then among venues to pursue; more so for today's college aged's I would think.

I guess I just figured that's what they have insurance for is to pay for the losses they incur from situations like that, but I guess that's not how it works.

Insurance, at the promoter level, would cover a direct cost such as paying a band that was cancelled, but would not cover lost ticket sales. But considering that almost all of Thursday's tickets were already sold, no loss there, either, last year.
Vendor's insurance would cover a cancellation but not low sales. Few, apparently, take advantage of insurance. I don't know whether vendors pay a percentage of sales to the promoters; I would doubt it.
But to Stout's point, I think the perspective is that we ticket buyers have to assume some of the risk along with the promoters. We all know it's an outdoor event over several days that can be affected by weather and other external forces. If the promoters had to be guarantors, then you'd be paying a whole lot more.

When you are on the final screen to purchase your tickets on the festival website there is a box at the bottom that you have to check with the following statement beside it:
I agree to the Ticketstoday User Agreement and have read and understood the Ticketstoday Privacy Policy. I also understand and agree that all sales are final. There are no refunds unless the event is cancelled or postponed.
From where I sit, Thursday was cancelled. I suppose they interpret this to mean that no refund unless the entire fest is cancelled...okay. But where do you draw the line? If Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were all cancelled but Sunday went as planned would that warrant a refund?

Personally, I find this lineup is absolutely stellar. Phish, MMJ, and JRAD are bringing me back despite the debacle that was last year. I was pretty bitter about the way they handled the situation with Thursday in 2015. I realize that weather was outside of their control, but the reaction to it wasn't. The decision to put a headliner at the beginning of the day was "dubious" to begin with. Then, I sat in the field of broken dreams for a second time, watching hundreds of cars arrive after me and enter ahead of me, while the Doobie Incident went off. With an entire day cancelled, some sets were abbreviated, some artists didn't perform, and we lost 20% of the music for the weekend. That fact, coupled with the delays getting in on Friday, meant that I missed more than a quarter of the festival. Seems to me they should have offered a partial refund.
But that's all in the past now, and I'm looking forward to the most exciting festival lineup I've seen in 5+ years.
