Oh, I totally understand why it had to happen, I just think it was a bad decision given the festival's history of not being able to get patrons onto the grounds in a timely and equitable manner. I was in line at 7:15 am and didn't get in until almost 3:00 pm. If you're going to schedule a headliner to open the festival (regardless of the circumstances that led to it), you should have a plan in place to get all your patrons checked-in beforehand.

My biggest "complaint" about Lockn is that they just have to get better at logistics.

I do think attendance will be down but not dramatically. More room for the rest of us. I think everyone is down this year. So many festivals, so little time. The changing of the date probably hurt the most. That should have been taken care of right off. I think Oak Ridge has made enough money from Lock' that they could have racing again & that may be a prime time for them.

I'll just say, based on that interview, I don't have any real confidence in that number. It seemed like they asked him how many people and he just picked an "about" number. Nothing wrong w/ that and not lying, but also not some sort of accounting statement.
Or maybe that is just me reading way too much into it and there will be 30,000.

~35k was comfortable for L2. ~25k was also comfortable for L3, but I couldn't have told you it was 10k less people. According to Shapiro's interview earlier today they are anticipating 30,000.
I would think ~40k is when it would really start feeling crowded on the show field.

Weird, i thought L3 felt more crowded. I assumed it was all the enthusiasm for Wilco and Willie. I am hopeful that the single (revolving) stage is going to make the crowd seem smaller since the space will be utilized more efficiently. At night when capacity was at the maximum, the non-active side of the stage had room and the active side was packed to the vendors. One of the big differentiators to me for Lockn was the back-to-back sets. I hope no one jams up a track on the revolving stage with their dreadlocks.

I might be wrong, but I would say at least 35k. A lot of people will come last minute. It's two weeks earlier this year and still summer break for many people. Phish sells out their own festivals where they are the only act (which they do not have this year). Lockn just announced weekend tickets are running low. Two types of camping are close to selling out (or sold out at this point).

According to Dave Frey's interview with the Lynchburg News & advance they are getting up near 30,000 which would make it sold out. Although I'm sure they would sell more than that if it came down to that. Sounds like they are doing alright. Also says the date change has led to a lot more RV spots. Sounds like they people they get different equipment from are happy they changed the date. Now they don't have to compete with NASCAR & other events that have been going on for a lot longer. Bet they get better deals on the equipment. May be why it took a while before they changed the date. POLITICS!! Got to love it.

I understand that's what was said. I just think he's overplaying it. There's also a lot of tickets on the secondary market. Sales don't necessarily equal attendees.

Having purchased Lumni tickets, I didn't know the lineup would be what it is. I'm pretty disappointed considering the cost not to mention the sale of ADA RV camping passes was so convoluted (supposedly a glitch) so I had to settle for ADA Car Camping which means no electricity or air conditioning For someone with pulmonary fibrosis, or any other lung disease, AC makes a huge difference in comfort. I have too much invested not to go this year but it's doubtful I'll come next year.

Traffic Patterns During Lockn’ Festival August 24-26, 2016
Friday, August 19th, 2016
The Lockn’ Festival returns for its fourth year in 2016, from August 24 – 28th, to the Nelson County Preserve and Oak Ridge Estate in Arrington.

We are expecting close to 25,000 Lockn’ Festival attendees this year. Compared to other multi-day festivals, Lockn’ sells 4 times (almost 12%) the average number of VIP tickets. Lockn’ patrons spent 2.1 times the norm and chose higher quality, local concession products.
Pre-Event Traffic: VIP and RVs will arrive on Wednesday, 8/24. They will load-in from 5 to 8 pm. Traffic will leave Route 29 at the stoplight, follow Route 29 business (Front Street) to Route 56 to Oak Ridge Road and to the venue. Oak Ridge Road from Buena Vista Road to west of Wilson Road will be one way traffic during this time.
Thursday, 8/25: attendees will load-in beginning at 6 am. (From the North and South along Rt. 29, and Rt. 151 South to Rt. 6 and Route 6 East to Rt. 29)
Schools are closed on Thursday, 8/25
During the event (8/25-28) most attendees will remain at the Festival, so there should be little impact on traffic on these dates.
Monday, 8/29: Post-Event traffic may be a little heavier as attendees depart the festival. (North and South along Route 29, Route 6 West and Route 151 North)
NOTE: No departures from the festival grounds onto Route 29 will be allowed on Monday, 8/29 morning between 7:30-8:00 am while school buses are on the roads.
Similar to 2015, traffic will be routed by Virginia State Police to most expediently direct vehicles with the least amount of disruption to the usual flow of traffic, and to business accessibility.

Based on the data we've got, I think the difference is going to be in the amount of Daywalkers relative to actual festival patrons. Previous Lockn's had a few disproportionate days where thousands of single-day people were tacked on. (Remember Tom Petty? Daywalkers.) I believe/hope that this year, a higher percentage of the festival population will be attending the duration of the weekend.
The ticket pricing isn't helping the single day sales, either. One day costs nearly half as much as a weekend pass.
A single day ticket for Thursday is $79 before fees, once you factor in parking, you're looking at an actual cost of like $100. No offense to this awesome line-up, but I don't see many people dropping $100 for a Thursday ticket.
A single day ticket for Sunday is $129 before fees, comes to basically $150 when you're done. Again, considering Sunday doesn't have a latenight, I don't see the relative value in buying a single for Sunday.

I't seems that only the local papers have the Wednesday entry as 5:00. My 2 emails from CID & the print at home ticket has a 4:00 pm entry. I'll be there at 4:00 if not before.

I noticed a influx of weekend and day passes the last two years from WSMFP...... Not suprised. And i agree with above that should be lessened this years, especially with Phish playing FRI/SUN will draw people for the whole festival.
