If I could add one artist to the 2023 lineup: Shakey Graves

Anybody do anything to prep themselves for the fest? I usually try to keep really hydrated and eat very healthy (lots of greens and fiber) in the days leading up to a fest. I know I'm going to abuse the fuck out of my body for several days, so it may be a good idea to prop it up as much beforehand as I can.

Definitely what you said. I'm exercising for other reasons, but I like to make sure I walk/run a good bit leading up to the fest, just so I know I'll have my legs under me. Make sure my nails are cut and my hair is cut, just easier to manage and won't get as gross during the fest. I also get drunk once to let my liver know what's coming.

I take a week off from the buds to clear my head and get my tolerance levels down, try to drink extra water in the days before too. The night before I leave I get the party started with a greasy unhealthy meal. I'll also usually watch something the night before to pump me up. Remember the Titans always works lol, clips of the Phillies '08 World Series or the Flyers '10 playoffs, last year it was Fare Thee well clips, before Peach I watched Obama's DNC speech (sorry to bring politics into the mix...). Right before I leave I give a little ode to self and remind myself to leave all stress and anxiety at home and to only welcome positive thoughts for the next 4 days. Then right before We leave its always a tradition to give the Cat some final pets and end the T-break while listening to Jerry Mungo's 'summertime'. It was during that song last year that I learned of the cancellation so we'll see if I repeat it. For me the pre fest ritual is as much a part of the experience, it all leads up to my favorite moment of every fest: when you finish setting up, sit down, crack a cold one and scan the field knowing this is your home for the next 4 days and there is no place I'd rather be. Some people close their eyes and think of the beach or the mountains when they're stressed, I think of a festival campground. Ahh who's ready to say fuck it and leave tonight!?

Too easy! My wife Kay, my oldest son Jarod, and my wee one Mallory, gathered in a circle, we all held hands, and said "Thanks be to God for this beautiful time we are about to share with many friends. May we get there safely. We pray for our service men & women serving overseas that cannot be there to join us for this fantastic four day ride of fun, friends & great music." Amen. So excited this year as my nephew Jonathan will be joining us this year. He just returned from a year of deployment in the middle east 2 weeks ago. SO damn proud of him. Very proud to say I am a vet too.
This was followed by a shot of Gentleman Jack Daniels, and one helluva "Wooooohoooooooo, lezgomojo!!"
And NORTH we went.

Great post! I don't have a ritual as I'm not a regular. I haven't been to a festival since Bonnaroo in '06. I am definitely going to adopt the bolded for this trip, though,especially since I'm flying solo. Music and greens. Listening to music and drinking green smoothies as much as possible. I also (unsuccessfully today) try really hard not to annoy the shit out of everybody I see, blabbing on and on about bands I can't wait to see, new friends I can't wait to meet, etc., etc. On the other hand my husband abused his liver reallllllly bad Friday night on into Saturday morning and I think he's still drunk but he's at least given his body a heads up of what's to come. He hasn't pulled one of those in a while, so I'm thinking next weekend won't be quite as rough on him (and his liver).

I have been doing this for a month at work and everywhere else, luckily my friends are going so they aren't as annoyed with it. Other than that, shit's been packed for almost a week...... Our pre-fest ritual has been to talk about how excited we are and piss off all of our friends... lol
No, but seriously, I've been working my ass off in order to "deserve" the excellent food and drinks and other party favors and be able to rage.
Did treat myself to a Sunday Funday yesterday and am paying for it today. Have barely had any alcohol in the past six weeks. Had to prep myself for all the whiskey I'll be drinking.
