Greetings fellow music lovers! This year will be my first time at lockn and I couldn't be more excited. I was directed to these forums by a wonderfully nice lady I met in the Dead&Co lot at Bristow VA a few weeks ago. We talked about going to Christmas jam in Asheville and eventually lockn came up and she told me about these forums. I don't do any social media so it's awesome to have a group like this to be apart of. I've been to muddy roots fest in TN a few times but this will be my first big festival. I got a ga ticket with car camping and will be going solo so it would be cool to hook up with some of you nice heads over the weekend! I'm mostly excited to see String Cheese, the Terrapin set Friday night, finally getting the chance to see Widespread Panic, John freaking Fogerty, and the Phil.Moe. set on Sunday. Also really stoked to see the JRAD night sets! The only question I have is what time were allowed to enter the property and set up camp on Thursday? I live in Charlotte so it's about a 3.5 hour drive for me. BTW most people who know me call me Chewy or Sasquatch because I'm a 6 foot 4 nearly 300lb guy with very long hair and beard haha

I have been on this board for close to two years and have yet to meet any of these great people. The past friday meet ups have been too early for my hungover ass. But its on my bucket list.

Based on last year, you will drive straight in at 10 am. Based on 2015, ummmm, lets just say i still feel like im waiting to get in. A mini hurricane the night before had a bit to do with that.

Welcome! We used to drive up Wednesday night and sleep(?) in the over packed RV in a parking lot so we could be in line first thing in the morning. Last year we all slept in our own beds Weds night and drove up from Raleigh Thurs morning. We rolled in around 11, drove straight to a spot and set up. You will be well rested and have PLENTY of time to set up camp before the music starts on Thurs. Of course we were going in the RV entrance and as stated every single year has been different. Having said that, with the exception of L1 and L3 with the storm damage, the parking/entry process has gone better and better. And hang out some on here, get to know some folks digitally at least and plan to come to the meetup. You will have a built in big friendly crew that you will run into all festival long.

There are a lot of variables so it is very hard to answer.

1. It depends what kind of camping you have. If you arrive early for tent-camping, for instance, you have the best choice of campsites and all of the campsites are not far from the stage.

2. In past years the stage was all different. The main venue is much more centralized so no campsite is far away anymore, relatively.

3. It is true if you were car camping and arrived early, they often loaded the farthest camping spaces first. However they don't always follow a consistent loading plan so there is no way to tell what the loading plan will be like this year. Plus they completely changed the entrance. I would guess they will still load the farthest away spaces first, as it makes logistical sense but there are no guarantees (also see 2, even the farthest place is close).

Basically it is a crap shoot and no one knows for sure. I have bought the same camping pass each year (VIP RV) and been one of the first in line each year (#1 in year 1) and have been parked farther away each year. Now in all honestly the farthest that I have had to park is still relatively close but still, it just goes to show you don't ever know. With the new configuration this year all bets are off...

Chewy, if entering the festival this year is anything like last year, I would recommend getting a good nights sleep in Charlotte and arriving mid-late morning. It was a breeze getting in around 10:30am last year and we ended up in a great spot (GA car camping). We were totally paranoid after the 2015 storm disaster (mental trauma has forced this from my memory), so I know they want to make getting in easy. Save your energy for the late nights ahead!

Last year, we got there at about 7:30, and went right up to the checkpoint, no line. I know some people said the section they were in was loaded back to front (farthest to closest to the gate). Where we were, they filled in front to back, so earlier arrivals were closer.

So, yea, to reiterate redundantly again, it's a crap shoot.

I wouldn't advise trying to arrive before the opening time, which has been 6:00 in the past, but I don't think they've announced it this year (am I wrong?) If you get there too early, you won't be allowed to queue up, they will run you off.

I'm not signing this!

Welcome. Promoters say that entering/leaving will be easier then ever plus others have noted the revised layout means less all around walking. I go car VIP and have been getting the early pass (Wed) but not worrying about it this year. I'm guessing any time after the first rush will be fine for ya, and music starts late this year. If it's going to be a burner weather wise, enjoy the car A/C and don't worry about getting there too early.
