Charging electronics

There are charging stations for a fee. You may find an unattended outlet near the vendors, equipment or VIP bathrooms. I plan to carry a wall charger so I can bump my phone while visiting an RV friend.

You can charge from your car's "lighter" but I wonder if that will actually drain the battery?

I carry a jump box and also a couple of portable USB chargers, and start with everything charged.

I bring a 12v 50amp gel cell battery just to charge electronics. Offer to my neighbors, though they usually look at me funny until the end of day two when they come plug in. I also bought a 20000mAh portable phone charger for work recently. Didn't know how huge and heavy it would be. That said, it could charge my phone 20 times. Haven't decided if I should lug it around Lockn, but it did come in handy with the family at Disney a few weeks ago.

It turns off a lot of the shit you don't really need but you can still phone, text, and use your camera and the internet. I highly recommend this. You can triple or quadruple your battery life. Should be called "festival mode"...

I thought about taking a battery out of the boat, too, but I'll just go with the jump box. And I always have cables--mostly to rescue others.

Honestly, if you just turn off the data when you're not actively using it, the battery should last just fine. And you don't have to deal with a wonky interface and b&w screen.

I'll have two solar panels on the roof of my van charging a booster box with multiple USB plug-ins. Feel free to drop buy and charge up (I'll be in ADA camping), but if you are an Apple person you'll need to bring your own cord.

Portable batteries of any type are great to have.

Last year we got a jump-starter battery from Harbor Freight. Had a USB port on it, but we added a USB hub that plugs into a cigarette lighter (the battery had one of those, too), so everyone could plug in at once. Kept 5 smart phones and a couple of e-cigs charged up for the whole festival.

If you can remove the inverter from the equation you'll get more out of your car battery.

my car has a 110 outlet. but it seems to me that for charging devices, I'd be going from 12v DC to 110 AC back to 12v DC--each step costing me power. Right?

Better to go off a 12v for devices. You actually step that down to 5v for most things.

here's a shower a friend made for fests and had at L3. Water heats by solar in the big pipe. He also has a tire valve on it and hooks up a tire compressor for pressure

This reminds me of a guy setting up next to us last year. He obviously bought a tent much smaller than he intended. He & his buddies spent what seemed like at least an hour staring at that tent trying to figure out how that was going to work or how to set it up (maybe both). They also appeared, just possibly, that they had been partying a tad before they arrived at their site. Very entertaining & hilarious!!
