Nelson sheriff's office reports 43 arrests at Lockn'

In its fifth year, the Lockn' Festival attracted about 20,000 attendees to Infinity Downs Farm and 43 people were arrested during the event, according to festival organizers and the Nelson County Sheriff's Office.
The 71 charges stemming from the arrests included possession of schedule I/II drugs; possession of marijuana; possession of nitrous; possession with intent to distribute a schedule I/II drug; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; possession with intent to distribute nitrous; assault on FIRE/EMS; assault on law enforcement; public intoxication; trespassing; and property damage.
Attendance, while close to average, was down slightly from the 2016 festal, which counted about 25,000 concertgoers. At the festival in 2016, 25 people were arrested.
Dave Frey, festival co-founder, attributed the uptick in arrests to the reorganized festival space, enabling "more thorough searches and authorities finding more prohibited items."
He remained bullish on the festival overall.
"[The] weekend was so powerfully good. Everything ran very smoothly. We couldn't be happier from that perspective," Frey wrote in an email. "Also, Lockn's message of community, acceptance and love is always at the forefront of what we do, but this year, given the circumstances of the last few weeks in Charlottesville, that message became much more poignant. ... We can't wait for year six."
