I don't see an advantage to tent-only, especially in VIP, but then, I do not pack light. But that is helpful info about solitude if you want solitude; I had one of the worst spots for that last year and paid for it. Which links into the earlier discussion about those who value sleep and those who go without.

Ha! Thanks for the heads-up. For L2, my first, I flew but managed to pack a tent, two air mattresses, a backpacking stove (less propane), a pair of chairs, rain gear, boots, and clothing in two checkable duffels, but I had a rented car and camped in GA Family. I drove from Nashville for L3-L5, but I may need to fly again this year. Renting a car to sit unused for four days is a waste. Think they will let me walk in to VIP car camping and claim a spot without a car? I know they don't allow that at Bonnaroo (for reasons I have never understood).

since you are VIP talk directly to CID about your options; it you get to the right people they can be good to work with--but get everything "in writing" (print the emails) since the people at the gate won't know anything nor have any way to reach someone who does (BTDT).
While a car sitting for 4 days seems like a waste, the cost of ground trans to and from your airport, especially Charlottesville or Roanoke, will be more --if you can find it.

I doubt they’ll let you do that. Probably a safety issues since so many people with cars.

It just dawned on me when looking at the map again, that maybe they were able to move some of the big trees to the very back on the show field that Dave Frey talked about in the hay ride video from last year.

They did move some trees but in typical "Lockn Gonna Lockn" fashion they moved them directly in front of the stage.It just dawned on me when looking at the map again, that maybe they were able to move some of the big trees to the very back on the show field that Dave Frey talked about in the hay ride video from last year.

Thanks y'all!I think a bike would be handy for sure getting from VIP to Garcia's.And I even saw bikes piled up near the field entrance in the VIP area I think. Probably depends on where your tent ends up. I could see where it would be nice to have a way to get back and forth to your tent quickly if you end up on the far end of the VIP camping. If you end up close in the VIP area, probably wouldn't use it much at all for that.

One of my peeps has bad knees and we were discussing bikes because pedaling is easier on her than walking. And again, the hill is the big factor.
We decided here's why a bike is good: You coast down from Garcia's to show field (or VIP).
But you walk the bike up from show field/VIP to Garcia's, at least the steep part, using the bike like a walker but without green tennis balls on it.
And like the natives of Southeast Asia, you can carry a lot of stuff on a bike you are walking.
Same app for other distance treks with hills.

Just curious if anyone would know about the different entrances to the main show field...I will be camping in forest camping and it looks like that red arrow towards the left side is a nice and close entrance.....that is a regular entrance, right? Not a VIP entrance or something? Also, wondering if I will be able to cut through that path in the high field rv camping or would I have to truck it on down near family camping and then back up? Not a huge deal if I can't cut through the high field rv camp because our group has bikes.

Looks like the show field area may be larger (hope so) and maybe they are moving vendors farther from stage to make more room. Also looks like RV Ridge is back and more camping on Oak Ridge side. Maybe these are signs of good ticket sales, hope so. Dave has said that they are done with improvements and have to make money in 2019.

I always took the one main entrance (bottom right arrow) for the previous lockns I went to with this setup so I never really experienced entering from the other entrances.

Based on last year you can walk from forest through highfield RV and into the show field; that arrow is a regular entrance down a steep hill. That is your direct route.
