GA RV newbie

Hello all-
We have been Lockn'ng since the begininng-started out in SVIP with RV's on-site the first 2 years, then VIP w/on-site RV's the past 2, this year we have decided to save our $$ and will be headed to GA with an RV we bring in ourselves. I feel like such an a$$ asking for advice but moving from SVIP to VIP to GA where I have to do everything for myself (instead of just showing up) is a little intimidating! (waaah major 1st world issues, I know!).

Anyway, is it really better to come in Weds for early arrival? I like to get there on Wed. just because I can get set up and I'm ready to go on Thurs. morning. may or may not be an advantage coming early on Wed. for location. You might get there first and be placed in the farthest spot from the show field. It has happened before and you never know how Lockn is going to load the vehicles.

I will be missing my daughters high school orientation to do so (I missed her 9th and 10th birthdays for Lockn', so she is used to me letting her down! (and she is fine with it!)). I'm still trying to weigh the pros and cons, and really only want to come early to get a better spot in GA if there is such a thing. See above(plus getting away from the kids for a bit is sort of fun too!)

Will I need to make sure I have something to level my RV with? Probably so. Could be a little leveling required, could be a lot. Maybe pick up a set of leveling blocks from Walmart. They look like stackable Legos.

(I've never driven one, I will be the one you see in a ditch looking helpless I'm sure)...

Will I have AC at all times?? Yes, as long as the power stays running.
I am renting a 30 AMP rv which has AC but can you run it all night? See above
I literally know nothing about RV maintenance (neither does my husband or any of the rest of us who are coming)...I'm also wondering if anyone else has ever made the move from VIP to GA and what the major differences are to be expected, other than the obvious. Biggest difference will probably be the distance from your camp to the show field but even that is much improved over past years. You won't have access to the food or air conditioned bathrooms and showers but most people do quite well without those things. I've always done VIP so hopefully some others can chime in.

Any other advice? Bring a smile, a good attitude and some clean underwear, in that order.

I mean...I hope I don't sound spoiled...(even though I really was spoiled when we were in VIP!)..But I also am ready to experience ALL LEVELS of LOCKN'! Just need to know what I need to know! 

 Glass of water whisky on counter top works good too.

We have been going GA for every year. Previously we would try and get up to the area on Weds night and stay somewhere to get in line bright and early Thursday. That worked ok. Now we, and by we I mean about 40 of us, sleep in our own beds (notice I said beds and not bed) Weds night and come in around 11:00 on Thursday. We have had what could best be described as the best spots ever using that method. So yeah, Weds early arrival can be fun it it is certainly not necessary.

Will I have AC at all times?? We pull our rvs into place, plug them in, cut on the A/C and leave it run the whole time we are there. The first year the grid was not robust enough to handle the all night A/C requirements and breakers got tripped not infrequently. Things have improved dramatically and that is no longer an issue.

I literally know nothing about RV maintenance (neither does my husband or any of the rest of us who are coming)... Who are you sending to pick it up? Send more than one. Send the most responsible and detail oriented persons. Make sure thgey pay attention and ask questions when they get the walk thru. Whoever it is renting it to you would MUCH rather spend a few extra minutes explaining something over again than have to deal with the aftermath of you doing something wrong. And you would MUCH rather spend a few extra minutes having something explained over again than have to deal with the aftermath of you doing something wrong. It's not rocket surgery but pay attention.

I'm also wondering if anyone else has ever made the move from VIP to GA and what the major differences are to be expected, other than the obvious. Way cooler people in GA.

you know - I am excited for GA! We moved away from SVIP bc we found 1) its super expensive 2) people weren't so friendly (sorry if you are a SVIP-er and super nice - I guess I didn't see you!)...again, thanks for the advice!
