Figure out where you are ending your bus/train from NY and maybe we can get you suggestions to get to the venue. It's not on any public transportation lines I know of

When I travelled we could send things to a general post office in any city "post resistante" and they'd hold it for pick-up when you got to that country. I don't know if the US post office does this anymore but if not maybe a private mailbox company in C-ville will.

One issue is getting around in C-ville once you're there and then to Lockn'; it's a bit spread out.

And if you are flying in, the airport is out a ways.

If you won't have a car I'm not sure that I can help. Is it possible to rent a car and then buy a car camping pass?

Do you have to go to Charlottesville?  Could you go to Lynchburg instead?  They have a more definite shuttle for $39.

What an adventure you have ahead of you! Can't imagine you'll be the only one coming into that airport for the festival. Transportation will be .... a challenge.

If you get here you will be fine. Thursday night might be a challenge, but if you attend Friday's forum meet and greet you will have all the friends and family you need. As for a tent pass, you will find a place to pitch a tent if you are determined. Likely someone here will respond. Otherwise, I would suggest just finding a spot where other tent-only people camped and setting up your tent. Then if a stoned attend comes up and starts harassing you just speak only in German until they give up and walk away. Maybe hand them a $20 to show you are not trying to freeload. Worst case you have to set up camp 2 times before it works. This isn't a high security set up. Also, after the initial wave of people come in on Friday, regulation of the camp sites drops dramatically. If you wait to set up until after dark on Friday, I can't imagine you would have any trouble. Not condoning you breaking the rules per se, but don't be scared of not having friends or a good time. Miracles happen all the time.

Family of the ADA person are allowed to camp with them. We'll just tell 'em you're her brother-in-law or something.

So that's a pretty good offer: A car camping pass and beer to share.  That should get you in, the only problem being it's a week before the festival.  Don't worry at all about being there alone, even in the car camping area - I have been there every year and I always come alone (my friends all got old - how did that happen??).  There will be plenty of people to talk to, play with, enjoy the tunes with.  You have made a good start joining this board.  I have not done so in the past and still have a blast every time I come.  Should be even better this year.  (I will probably try to crash the M&G if I can, but I have commitment issues...   )

Have you researched Amtrak to get from NYC to Virginia?  American trains are not anywhere as easy and efficient as the DB you have at home, but it still might be better than the bus.  It all depends really on the final destination.

So - you are looking for a beer lover with a car going to Lockn who wants to split a car camping pass and can meet you in Richmond/C-Ville or Lynchburg?  You will hook up with a tent connection once you are inside the festival grounds, correct?

One point of confusion - you say you are arriving on Tuesday?  Did you mean Thursday?  Do you have solid arrangements yet?  Trying to set up a ride to the festival will be easier to find if you have a definite place or at least a schedule.  (Although flexibility can be helpful.)
