4848 nailed it on EVERY aspect. It became a 'scene' instantly and even a cursory glance at feedback will show how excited everyone was. My only complaint is I'm not sure how they'll be able to repeat the same experience. From a VIP point of view it's also the best value I've spent $ for any fest.
(Pic of my room)
(Glam shot from room)
So for VIP's (and I can't remember if room location was tied to VIP package, if not and you could get one of these rooms and a GA ticket the value skyrockets) there were several buildings surrounding the main stage. Most had balconies that directly over looked the area. From my building, you went downstairs and either entered the main village area or the top of the hill where the side stage is. Literally, in between bands (and the schedule was pretty much on point the whole time) I had about 20 mins to go back to my room, have a beer, reset frame of mind, and wait about 4 mins before the start of the next act to get back down and find a spot to groove. And that's if I didn't want to groove on my balcony.
(quick vid from room to stage view)
There were around 7 or 8 restaurants/bars, a draft house, and quite a few stores. You could only access them by going around the main floor so traffic flowed really well. VIP granted a private patio and bar next to the main stage, a HUGE covered bar with plenty of chairs/couches and a very large open area viewing floor on the side stage. Weather was perfect, some rain Thur which caused a delay but otherwise 70's each day and chilly (not cold) at night. Could keep the door open to my room at any point, no insects either.
Zero security. That changed Sunday afternoon when they realized they should probably at least pretend. I'm sure that will change next year.
For tent campers, there was a ski lift that brought you up the mountain. A beautiful and peaceful ride and the camping area is lovely as well. Lake and tons of space. I'll let the others tell you about that b/c I only went to their acoustic stage down there once. They had two early acts down there from like 10 to noon or something. The lifts close down at 8 and you have to shuttle back to camp but I can't tell you more about that.
People were amazing. Not one negative incident that I saw. I think we all knew this was something special.
90% of the music was incredible! Under cards better than I thought, Marcus was Marcus, Billy was Billy, Dusters killed it, I liked Greensky's 2nd night better, Umphrey did its Umphrey thing. Don't like Turkuaz which is fine b/c Lettuce did it so much better. Zero complaints on the music side and I'm sure you'll be able to find highlights online. The lighting was great, the sound was crystal clear, short walk between stages.
I'll bet you ticket prices go up next year, and I contacted management on the 2nd day to talk about 'Alumni' being able to get the same rooms going forward. They are looking into it. If so, I'm getting this room forever and passing it down in my Will.
As they learn more and more about how popular it was, I'm guessing management is going to make 'adjustments' and I bet each one will be a step back from this past weekend but I couldn't tell you about a more perfect combination of everything you love about a festival.
I don't want to compare this experience to any other, just that if I have one 'premium' fest experience a year, its going to be 4848. I may post some more pics but there's so much out there, you get the idea. Happy to answer any questions.
