Today is 9 weeks since surgery. The last week of getting up and walking on crutches went extremely well. Foot/leg feel great. I even walked up and down a few stairs. Great mental victory. Today I become a 50%er and look forward to the next week of continued healing and increased mobility. Hope you and yours are safe and well. Until we meet again, Happy Stumbling!

I'm on like day 10 now. I woke up this morning and took off walking without my crutches. I'll still use crutches for a bit but nice to know I can walk pain free without them.

Today marks 10 weeks since surgery. 10 weeks, wow. This combined with the pandemic has been surreal. I'm a 75%er today. Heck I got up and walked across the room on Sunday. Day before yesterday I drove myself to the grocery store and went shopping, no crutches. Quite a milestone. I've still got quite a ways to go, but I'm headed in the right direction. I was working on shedding some pounds before I got injured but after that happened my goal became not to gain 20 or 30 pounds while I'm sitting on the couch. I was quite pleased to find out this morning that I actually lost 10 pounds during my recovery.

Anyway, keep on keepin' on. It's the weekend for me. Stay safe and stay well.

I'd stumble for ya...

May 1, 2020. Eleven weeks since my surgery. Last night I slept in my own bed for the first time in 3 months. It was kind of a big deal. This morning I took a stand up shower, by myself, for the first time in 3 months. Also a very big deal. While the rest of the world is turned upside down by COVID 19 I am slowly returning to my own sense of normalcy. Today I became a 100%er, think I'll celebrate. From this point forward it's just about getting my ankle strength back, which I still expect to take some time but I'm getting there. Slowly but surely I'm getting there.

Follow up visit with my ortho surgeon today. The girl checking me in complimented me on my crutch cup holder haha. Three months since surgery (damn time flies when you're just sitting around). He said that I'm making good progress and that all of my hardware is still intact. Wants me to wean off of my crutches. I start PT next week, twice a week for six weeks and then one more follow up visit in two months. Can't wait to start PT so that I can make it my BITCH...

First day of PT went very well. My foot is nice and sore so I know that it's working. Started out with observation of my ankle and checking range of motion. Currently I'm very limited in range when I try to pivot my ankle and point my toes up. This is my biggest obstacle and what we are focusing on. Next was some major manual manipulation of my ankle including trying to pull it all of the way off . It didn't happen but I wondered for a minute. Next we started on the exercises. We used a piece of stryofoam that looking like a cylinder that had been cut in half lengthwise. My PT tech told me that "you can take a piece of firewood and cut it in half down the middle and you'll have the same thing". I. Shit. You. Not. Firewood is what I'm supposed to use. I looked at him over the top of my glasses and said "you do know that a piece of firewood is what landed me here in the first place don't you?" He chuckled and said well this is PT, time to get over those fears. He's right ya know, but not sure I'll be involving firewood in my recovery. Lots of exercises to do at home on my off days so just looking forward to improving some daily.
