Also, if it's any more of a draw, I forgot when talking about the Bands That Are Not Cabinet, that Willie Jack's drummer Joe Ciarvalla did a brief stint in Zen Tricksters. I think when Donna was with them, too. Don't ask him about it if you happen to meet him, though; it's kind of a sore subject. But don't be afraid to engage if you do meet him - he's a wonderful fellow and does music therapy-ish drumming workshops for group- and retirement homes. You'll probably find him leading the drum circle if there is one that there will inevitably be.

Cabinet Family,
We have put a lot of thought into The Getdown. These past six months have certainly been challenging and have left us all with a lot of different feelings. Through all of this, we have been working together to navigate these times and prepare ourselves to once again make music for you in a live setting. We want to connect with you on our intentions for this year's gathering. Our collective goal, combined with your cooperation, is to gather together this weekend safely and respectfully so we can all enjoy our love of music and friendship.
In order to do so, we really need all in attendance to be as helpful, patient and understanding as possible, when it comes to how we interact with each other during this year’s Getdown. Cab Fam means so much to us as a band, and everyone’s safety will continue to be our first priority. We want you to know that we have your safety in mind. The amazing folks of Bears Picnic Productions have worked directly with local and state authorities, to ensure a way for the Getdown to happen this year, while incorporating a new level of safety and security.
With that safety in mind, we would like to offer the opportunity to PRE-ORDER merchandise. All pre-orders will be taken via our Big Cartel Site on a first come first serve basis but you WILL need to include a note with your order that you would like to pick up at the fest. All items that don’t include a note for pickup will be processed, packaged early next week. If you are attending the fest we ask that you take advantage of this opportunity and place your order (with note) to give our team enough time to get everything ready for pickup.
Our merch table will be set up for very limited hours for the weekend and all pre orders will be available for pickup at different times at a location TBD. We had some new items made up for the event so jump on it!
Can not wait to get down with the CabFam. It really fills our hearts so.
With love and respect,
Cabinet

Ben Ehrsam & Fam have been putting on Bear's Picnic for 15 years now, and Getdown for 5. Getdown was spun off in part because the 10th anniversary in 2015 (jeez what a year for live music!) was so off the chain successful. These cats have extensive experience and, as much as anyone can these days, know what they're doing.

You can order twice as many porto potties and spread them throughout the grounds to cut down on bathroom lines (wish every festival and live event did this anyway). For food/merchandise/shopping period I would expect to see some variation of the Cabinet merchandise model. Instead of standing in line at the stand you place an order through phone/text and they text you when its ready. Come show time (especially when it gets dark) there isn't much you can do to keep people apart though.
It will get annoying, but the best way to ensure cooperation is for band after band to mention it on stage. "thanks for coming out, we are X from small PA town Y, remember to wear your masks and keep your distance so we can do this again". Sort of like how every band at Lockn 2017 was required to mention the words "Charlottesville" and "love" during each set. SCI of course was under different rules where they were required to say those words in between every song.

I had heard about at least one contemporary country act doing a drive-in show, but reading the above I thought to myself, wow! These country acts are ahead of the curve as far as getting their families fed! In-person tickets, even if it is socially distanced tail-gating, has to be more lucrative than Zoom gigs.
So why, I thought, doesn't everyone shoot for one of these? Then I remembered: the few places that still have drive-ins, there's nothing for miles around except country fans! Okay, not really, but you know what I mean. But I think small fests should look at this as an option. Fests are more of a destination event, so geographic isolation is nbd - most places they're held are geographically isolated anyway for noise ordinance purposes. You'd have to restrict camping to tent, class B and tiny trailer campers, but I think it could be done. Bonus: built-in jumbotron!
Which brings me to my next point, and my excuse for posting this here instead of the Coronavirus & Cancellations thread: I'm purely speculating, but I'd say there's a chance Getdown puts the stage a lot higher in the air than usual, pops up a screen or two, and we watch from camp. They've never had any kind of screens before, but they do project family films in the kids area after dark, so we know they possess a projector.
On yet another note, I'm sure we can voluntarily bubble with each other to a certain extent. In general terms, bubbling with out-of-towners would not be too swift, but I know everyone in this crew has been as diligent as possible, and I can vouch for Rj. Anyone who's uncomfortable with that can do as they please, but I don't see how, for instance, lobster and I plan on jamming together either distanced or masked. It'll end up being a moot point anyway, and if not the answer is probably "very carefully." But NO hugs, lol.
Last, as of this morning, the number of tickets for resale has shot up exponentially. Could be folks that bought presales before the pandemic waited to the last minute in hopes that scarcity would help insure they recoup a maximized amount. Or, it could be other reasons. I absolutely do not want to discourage anyone from attending, but I feel you all are owed full disclosure.

I ain't looking for sympathy here. Folks with families, and/or folks whose livelihoods are threatened, certainly have it worse than us. But this thing, and all the other stuff, whether you're fer it or agin it, is stressful. Hasn't been good for anyone's mental health, and for those of us who went into it with pre-existing psychiatric issues... Nah, I don't wanna finish that one either. Suffice it to say that I'm extraordinarily grateful that my doctor put me on a different medication back in January, and that it does seem to be more effective.
But I need release. And reset. And smiling, friendly faces. Even if they have to smile with their eyes alone. uʞɔo˥ewbn , my vote is for you to just come right on and visit. If we have to practice some additional social distancing with you, so be it. I can imagine far worse fates than having your smirking smiling face be one of my last sights.
Oh, and I can't stress this enough: Bring your own equipment.

Maybe a handful of us reg'lars should try to come up with a time and a point as equidistant as possible (Monongahela National Forest?) for a group camp some time?

Some small consolation is that we'll be at a local party (private) featuring Bigfoot County our local GD tribute band with some good friends.
OK who's going to volunteer to stream those Cabinet sets (looking at you uʞɔo˥ewbn )...

EDIT: If it's any consolation, we'll spend the next week obsessively refreshing (Sue's) social media, praying against a sudden injunction from the authorities.
