if you wait for the "go signal" i fear you'll be getting to your campsite sometime late in the afternoon
I'll take late afternoon over 10 pm anytime. And no leo rap, rap, rapping at my window. I know Walmart's cool about RVs, but I wonder if they're as cool when the RVs have the potential to outnumber shoppers.

The manager of the Manchester Walmart said he makes more money during Roo week than any other. The lot is packed with people camping, and inside you have lots of festies with the munchies piling their carts with food and beer. All the employees were wearing tie dies. you might want to check some rv websites about the particular walmart at which you want to stay. Walmart in general is chill with RVs, but some cities prohibit overnight parking in lots.
check this website. Click on the store you want. There are three in lynchburg area.
Can I stay here overnight?

ATTENTION: I called and spoke with managers at all 3 local Wally worlds. The official word on all three were no overnight parking. Should be arriving mid afternoon Wednesday....There is a Wal-Mart about 28 miles south of the venue on HWY 29 in Madison Heights. My plan is to fill up water for the RV there do a little Wally-Worlding and hold tight till i hear of entry being opened. Wal-mart allows RV parking overnight. About 7 miles north of lovingston 10-15 minutes north of oak ridge is Nelson County Wayside. No hours free park. parks and recreation verified. public property.

Dunno that it'll be overnight per se, but I still feel vindicated.
Gotta remember that Lockn's still brand new, and there hasn't been time for the locals to figure out that they can make money off us. The folks near 'Roo have over a decade of experience.

I'm not parking overnight, I'm shopping for last minute items then waiting for the baker to arrive to make the first batch of doughnuts. Last year was no problem for several members of our group.

the charlottesville w'mart told me there is an ordinance against overnight rv parking at that location. i did stay overnight at the one a little north of charlottesville last year with no problem. i did not ask for permission, however.

My flight gets into Charlotte around 11:30 or so. I figure we will be on the road for about 4 hours to the gates. So we are going to stop at a walmart to buy our supplies maybe a waffle house to kill a little time (do they have the house in Virginia?) and should get to the gate a little before sunrise hopefully.

They got Waffle House e'erywhere...My flight gets into Charlotte around 11:30 or so. I figure we will be on the road for about 4 hours to the gates. I'm actually arriving in Richmond on Tuesday night, meeting up with my old College roomate to excercise the liver, then spending Wednesday night in Charlottesville hopeful to arrive between 6-9 AM

So it sounds like (based of info from last year) Sometime between 5:30 and 9 are the best times to arrive? I'm bracing myself for up to 4 hours in line.

I just spoke with CID Entertainment and asked them specifically about assigned spots and whether we'll be able to choose and camp near friends. They said VIP camping spots will be assigned upon arrival and you should arrive with the people you want to camp near. Also, Steeplechase is being filled up first and then the Infield (inside the track). Hard to tell which of the two spots will be "better" but I was in Steeplechase last year and we had a good time

If your looking to get into the festival grounds without have to wait in your car for a long period I would suggest going after lunch. The majority of people going will be coming in between 6 - 10 am tomorrow. You might be a little rush setting up camp before the first act comes on, but thats the price you pay for not waiting in line.

They have GOT to do something better for folks coming from the north. Cause this driving miles out of the way after driving all night shit ain't cutting it.
