No issues on arriving Friday. You will be able to drive right up, park it and walk in.

I fly in Wednesday evening to Washington National so by the time I rent a car and drive the three hours south it will be the wee hours of the morning. I am hoping for an early check in time at the B&B so maybe I can catch a nap  but I will probably be too excited  

That is usually the way it works. A day before so you can get oriented and be there prepared for Thurs morning when it all goes down.

Like last year, I'll arrive by midnight on Wednesday, get in line and sleep. I have a VW bus so home is where I park it. When the gates opened last year I was in my camping spot within 30 minutes.

I would think that since it's state roads going in, there would be limited space to park in line--unless they open up a field then.
And that seems unlikely for permit and liability reasons.

Last year there was a large field right in front of the gates and as folks rolled in the cars lined up.
As far as getting your spot of choice it will not happen. Once you pass through vehicle inspection and get your wrist band, they escort you to your designated area. Upon reaching your designated area (car camping etc.) you are directed as where to park. You will not get to choose where you park/camp. There will be a convoy of vehicles in front and behind you so they do everything to keep it moving. Therefore no chance of selecting where you want to camp. I've been to many festivals and will have to say that I love the grounds/venue of Lockn. Beautiful countryside, spread out, it really turns into a mini town. I felt they did a great job last year other then some of the entry issues folks had. Great vibe, good people and awesome music.. I'm looking forward to returning. If only Railroad Earth was going to be there! I highly recommend taking a bicycle.
