Grateful Dead, core four reunion at lockn...rumblings

Either I have high hopes or false hopes about them playing LOCKN. It sure would make sense if they did. I dont think it is about what make sense but rather conflicting personalities, surety bonds, health, and $$$$.

The relationship that Shapiro has with PL sure helps but as I understand it, other relationships are on the rocks within The C4.

Wow, so they're literally only doing 3 shows in Chicago? Nothing in SF? Nothing in NY? Not a single fest? That's surprising, I'm not complaining cuz I live like 3 hours from Chi and I have free places to stay there, but that's just odd. Unless they're going to do a few cities prior to Chicago, but I guess that totally rules out any fests, including Lockn'.

You will notice the specific wording that is being used in different places. On the website FAq it says "Are these really the final concerts this band will ever perform together," which could mean that specific lineup as opposed to the core four more broadly. The Billboard article is a little more definite, at least on first glance, but even that seems to leave wiggle room for other shows. They quote Bobby saying: "These will be the last shows with the four of us together," but then closes on the more hopeful note that "The one remaining burning question: will the Core Four return to touring as the Grateful Dead? Weir says it's unlikely that the Chicago bow will be part of a longer run," but again, the quotations don't specify what Bobby means by "these shows" or "touring as the Grateful Dead," or "unlikely" and without a full transcript it is impossible to say for sure how definitive his statements were versus how they are being interpreted.

So yes, this is great news that seems to be bad for Lockn', but I'm still hoping that our festival is getting in on the action in some cool way, and I think that is still a very real possibility given that Shapiro is involved in the Chicago affair.

I think we're going to have to have a little Lockn' Forum get-together in Chi-Town this summer!

Personally I would be much more interested in seeing The Rhythm Devils, Ratdog and Phil and Friends play Lockn. The 4 don't even have to play together. I'm just not feeling a trip to Chicago...

what are they thinking? a stadium show...three of them ? they won't sell it out no way, my friends will want to go, but Im thinking this is a blow to lockn...a lot of people won't have money for both...that's likely what it will come down to for a lot of people me included...which sucks I wanted this to happen at lockn.. Now I know why they announced the bands they did when they did...to get out ahead of the dead announcement and sell as many tickets as possible before the dead announced their shows....The best thing Shapiro can do now is try to get phil with Jrad....

Meanwhile I've got just the right Deadhead dive bar in mind for a little get-together. :-)

It just means the guys wanted to do something other than Lockn.

I was really hoping they would play lockn but can understand doing one stadium run.

That being said I am frantically doing travel research and doing math for funds.
