Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
Yes but you shouldn't need it with the showers/bathrooms provided--however they were very poorly maintained last year, and no way to call anyone about the problems (lack of communication with administration is one of my biggest complaints). And on a larger subject, I'm surprised they let people use "private privies" at all, which is simply dumping human waste into the trash stream. As they become more popular--and I saw lots of them in GA--I would expect a change in that regard. I'm not advocating that; just observing. Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.
What camping should I get?

So I guess the question is...why is Forest Camping so much more expensive? Is it worth the extra cost? How close is it to the parking? Just trying to figure out whether to go with Camping, Car Camping or Forest Camping. Any tips are appreciated so i can tell my crew what kind of camping tix to buy. Thanks

I saw nothing appealing about "forest camping."
I like having the car at the campsite for storage, secure storage, emergency shelter if the tents fail in a big storm. But I do not pack light and like to have my stuff! Which includes coolers.
Those who like non-car camping find they can group the friends together better, and that it is a "short walk" to the car to get stuff.
As far as accommodation, VIP gives you better showers/bathrooms, and not to sound snobby, a more up-scale group of neighbors. Is it worth the upcharge? that is a 100% personal opinion.
Are the 4-5 of you driving cross country together, or flying and renting to drive in?
Check the rules about how many on a camping pass; you may need two--but you will appreciate the room, especially if you drive out together!
And welcome to the board, and in advance, welcome to Virginia!

Well, you kind of do come off a sounding a bit judgmental with that statement.

What I was trying to express is that there wasn't a lot of craziness, especially late night, but an older mellow crowd.
Nor were there a lot of wooks skulking about (there was apparently a lot of thievery in the GA areas); I felt safe leaving my camp fairly open.
A very different feel than GA camping--and certainly some would prefer to be in the mix. For example, my college age nieces preferred GA and my 25 year old daughter, a fest vet of 'roo and Allgood, would too. So let me leave it at "different" as a neutral.
Thanks for pointing that out before I accidentally offended anyone.

Forest camping is too far from the main stage in my opinion. Having the car at the site is important to me for all of the same reasons that Smosey pointed out.

I'm going Forest this year because it is really close to the late night acoustic stage.
Just hope I can find 3 agreeable trees to string a Tentsile tent up in.

It can be tough to claim enough space for multiple tents/cannopies In car camping.
Edit: I wanna check that tentsile tent out!

I'm hoping that the extra money will filter out the crowd that steals shit (I want to bring a guitar) and parties hardest from 4-7 in the morning. Plus, the shade will help to get much needed rest later into the morning. It was really a toss up for me, because it is a lot more expensive. Only time will tell if I chose wisely
s1248.photobucket.com/user/rainhaze1/media/LOCKNCOMPARISONMAP3_zpsf54d8fdd.png.html
So totally unscientific but I don't think the price is filtering out any of the crowd. Last year there was absolutely no crowd control and lots of people without forest tickets camped there. People who are willing to squat in a camping area that they did not pay for may be more, not less, likely to steal shit.
It was also noisy back there. I think noisier than other camping areas. Perhaps people took the "cover" from the trees as a way to be less discrete. I don't know.
I do agree about the shade. Would be nice. I was up by 7:30 every morning last year.

Even in VIP camping, a neighbor caught a band of thieves roving through the campsite during a headliner show; he scared them off with the look one usually sees down the barrel of a large pistol. I heard there were similar groups in other areas, too.
You can't lock everything down but do enough to keep an honest man honest.

Last question- what time and on what day does camping open? If it opens Thursday, any suggestions to where to stay nearby in the area? We are flying in Wednesday and would prefer to camp somewhere if possible.
