It's probably premature to call the period of cooler, wetter weather ahead as the start of fall. It appears warm, dry high pressure will rebuild next week, bringing back at least summerish weather, if not downright summerlike. But a significant southward dip in the jet stream over the weekend will allow a couple of cold fronts to push through, along with a series of weak low-pressure systems and upper-level disturbances. This combined with increasing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will bring periods of showers and storms over the next 5 days or so. Numerous showers and a few thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night into Thursday ahead of the first of these fronts. Most locations will probably get less than half an inch of rain, but some in heavier downpours may get 1-2 inches. Another front is due to move through over the weekend. After perhaps another day of summerlike 80s on Wednesday, highs are likely to back off into the 70s to perhaps some low 80s the remainder of the week into the weekend.
