So, this is our first year attending, and trying to figure out a couple things. I've been all over the website and this is all I see spelled out:

On the SHOW FIELD:

No chairs on the VIP or other viewing platforms

No coolers

No outside food

No tents or shade structures (*Very low shade structures are okay behind the sound board, but up to the discretion of security.)

Blankets and low-back chairs are allowed, but only behind or even with the FOH/Soundboard

Small umbrellas are allowed, but only behind or even with the FOH/Soundboard

We are not camping, but staying nearby. It doesn't say you can't bring in liquids. Can I bring in my own bottled water? Can I bring in alcohol?

are those ubiquitous bag chairs allowed? are they considered "low backed"?

The "show field" is the area in front of the stages and where the beer/food vendors are. They check you coming in, and you can't bring food/liquids (maybe one sealed bottled water, and empty containers to refill w/ water from the taps).

Since you are not camping on site, you'd have to leave that stuff in the car, or if you are walking, somewhere outside the "show field" which could be on the fence (luggage lock) or at a friend's campsite.

You may not bring alcohol. Alcohol is vended in the show field , so the same rules as a bar apply. One sealed bottle of water is allowed, as well as empty (non-glass) containers.

The website FAQ used to explicitly say that bag chairs were fine.

Question about "no outside food" - I'm not looking to bring in a rack of ribs, and I'm happy to buy dinner from the vendors (and looking forward to seeing what they have), but how "serious" are they about things like small bags of M&Ms, nuts or trail mix, a jerky stick, etc.?

I understand the "health issues" - you don't want folks bringing in stuff where the less conscientious could be leaving food waste litter in the show field area (yuck). With that in mind, maybe I don't want to bring in a greasy meat snack after all ...

I would imagine that they're more serious about liquor/drugs at the checkpoint - anyone have experiences from previous years they can share?

And one other question - does the "blankets only behind FOH" rule mean that if I want to be in the "regular GA" section up front, I can't even bring a small piece of tarp to sit on (between sets) if the field is muddy? Or are they more concerned about "squatters" claiming more space than they really need with massive blankets/tarps?

If I have to, I guess I could just bring a heavier weight plastic rain poncho and use it as a "tarp". Where there's a will, there's a way.

You must be a first timer. There is no between sets. When the music stops on one stage it will start on the next if everything goes as it should. And you really likely won't want to sit if you're in the crowd in front of the sound board.

The operative phrase in my original response is "If they find it." Sorry man, I don't make the rules, and I find them a bit dickish too. But "no outside food" means no outside food. I have seen them confiscate a Clif bar.

That's true as well. The "we don't do BYOB because it would be hard to control" argument is mostly bullshit, too. There would be some isolated incidents maybe, but I highly doubt this crowd would overdo much more than the smaller BYOB fests. After all, the campgrounds apparently aren't difficult to "control." It's all about the almighty dollar, but it's the law too. A happy (for them) coincidence.

Thing is, one can attempt to bring in outside food and beverages to show field then get all butt hurt when they won't allow it. Then raise hell until thrown out of the party.

OR...just go with the program and have a really good time. The choice is yours.

BYOB would invite much (more) glass. I really don't want to have to worry about getting sliced up when falling about in a drunken stupor. And what's wrong with making money? Nelson Co. has been extremely cool to allow this thing to happen, I'm glad they get a nice cut from taxes collected.

They announced yesterday no chairs at all in the VIP viewing area. Will have chairs on the 2 VIP viewing platforms, which hold few people. This is a big problem for me. No way I can stand on the field 12 hours a day without being able to sit. Had I known of this change from last year, I would not be going.

Hopefully you won't get butt hurt or thrown out for a few snacks. To me it's kind of annoying they force you to purchase stuff we will have plenty of by camp, so I can understand the feeling. a reason festivals are so popular is because of that air of non conformity but at the end of the day it's like being in the movie theater and buying expensive popcorn. you can't smoke in the theater and most people wouldn't try to smoke and just assume they will get kicked out. You will risk having your food taken away. That's about it.
