RV Tips and Tricks

Year 1 our rv was searched inside and out, but no backpacks, duffels or pockets were opened. Year 2 the rv check was very quick and only the outer storage, nobody came onboard. ymmv. 

At L1 when the searches were thorough they confiscated kitchen knives which are often supplied with rental RV's. You had to pick them up on your way out Monday at will-call--which was a huge diversion time-wise. Total overload, as if there was going to be a Iron Chef Ginsu Knife Fight on RV hill.

Although the searches have been less thorough, the word is still: be discreet. When you pick up your rental, store that kind of thing deep inside.

If you're VIP/Super VIP you get 2 free dumps and 2 free fills. Bring a surge protector for your electric hook up. The inspections when you arrive are pretty basic - but don't bring your usual kitchen knives or steak knives. Bring PLENTY of leveling blocks for your wheels and jacks, so sites are terribly not level! If you're GA, DO FILL the freshwater tank before leaving home!!! Take "whore baths" outside - heat the water on the stove in a stock pot and then cool it down with cool water. Can wash pretty much all of yourself, including hair - and the water goes on ground, not into holding tanks. If you cook, wash outside also. I carry a huge 1st aid kit, including staples. Never had to use it. Also carry 2 fire extinguishers. If you've got room for an extra cooler, prepare block ice that fit in your coolers and fill the extra one with the blocks. You'll need ice if you bring extra beers!!!

Actually would be to your advantage to have a larger capacity black tank than fresh water tank. In theory you could move all of the fresh water to your black tank and add "solids" to it as required and likely not overflow. This assumes no water going to gray tank. Mine has a 36 gallon fresh tank and a 30 gallon black tank so you have to watch the level of black tank. Usually a couple of showers worth of fresh water goes to the gray tank so it is no problem. The only time I have had an issue was when I added water to the fresh tank without draining the gray tank. After I took a shower the gray tank filled up and shower would not drain. 

As to the pump service if you have six people in an rv you could definitely fill those tanks in a couple of days. In VIP last year they dumped black and gray twice and filled fresh without asking. Nice to know you won't have a full sh**er in the middle of the night...

The black tanks are larger. I get paranoid about the black tank filling up but really shouldnt since the fresh water never gets gets used up.

Would this be a wise investment for filling my water tanks if I plan on using 7 Gal jugs to replenish? or should I look for a bigger one?

I prefer to roll in with a nearly full black tank. Just so I can give Dave & Pete a little more she-at for willie and ween.

Where will all that extra water go when you use it?

Would I just be able to put the end of the funnel in the tank to fill? Or does the clamp/hose make it that much easier? (First time RV'er)

exactly. That's what you get for carrying only two beers. What, no friends?

Usually the fill is on the side. Even if the funnel fits in, its going to be at an angle making it difficult to pour water into it at a decent pace. A 4' rubber hose (can buy by the foot at home depot) will allow the funnel to be held upright by one person while the other pours.
