I saw "Cadillac Records" last night about Chess Records in Chicago and its bringing blues up and out, electric, and into cross-over. None of the actors were musicians in real life but the music, with one exception, was outstanding. It prominently features Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Little Walter, Willie Dixon (the song writer), Etta James and Chuck Berry. I don't know if it was historically accurate, but it seemed to be from what I know.
The weak spot was casting Beyonce as Etta James. She sang in that horrible breathy American Idol style, bending notes the wrong way and randomly. Occasionally, she'd get the style right, and when she did, it was deep down, like when she did I'd Rather Go Blind. I think that one must have been lip sync off the original. But her opening was bad, and when she'd do that Idol thing it was as grating (to me) as a teenage boy's voice crack.
Great cars, guitars and equipment; outstanding soundtrack.
PS many reviews on IMDB say it is not historically accurate, factually and in the character portrayals. TEHO
