What are you watching?

A few episodes into this one now, so far it seems like just my kind of strange.

watched "Don't Look Up" last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was glad to know in advance that it is satire and an allegory for ------ -------; otherwise I'd think I was watching a bad remake of a bad Bruce Willis movie.  I saw some subtleties in it and want to see it again to look for more.  Clearly the directors are having fun with the audience. Don't want to say more.

I heard this: in one scene they show a telephone number for a help line.  Turns out the number actually works and it's for a sex chat thing. You may have noticed that in almost all films the phone numbers are 555-XXXX because there is no 555 exchange in use anywhere. Don't know why unless it's for this reason?  Can't get through BR-549 either.

Get Back, The Beatles documentary by Peter Jackson. Man, why did it take 50 years to make this? I'm such a HUGE Beatles fan I'm just eating this up. Fascinating. Watching the creative process of songwriting in the studio and seeing these songs develop organically is just so freakin' cool. The band was not really making much progress until Billy Preston just happened to stop by the studio and the five of them just clicked and took off. Paul really was the bandleader and the driver behind most of the songwriting, even though Lennon and McCartney split all songwriting credits 50/50. I just can't get enough of this. The making of Let It Be is covered in this documentary which culminates in....well I guess you'll just need to watch it for yourself won't you.

That original movie was great, and was the initial view into the Let It Be sessions.  That movie can still be found online.  As you allude to, Abbey Road sessions as I recall were a bit mixed into Let It Be (Maxwell, etc.), and came after Let It Be sessions, but the albums came out in the other order.   Having seen the trailers for the Peter Jackson movie but have not seen the movie yet, he was able to show so much more image clarity and color than I recall the original period movie had.  I saw the original at the McArthur (if anyone here knows DC movie theaters), late 1970s.

Peacemaker. The fact that it's a profane middle finger to Disney's Marvel shows alone makes it a worthy watch, but it's pretty hilarious, action-packed and the hair metal soundtrack is just <chef kiss>. DC shoulda stole James Gunn away a long time ago!

Woodstock 99 documentary.  Makes me all the more appreciate our peaceful local festivals.

Bro Fest Trainwreck.

Here's a nice nature video about Virginia's barrier islands, where I have spend my free time for almost 60 years (Cedar Island).

He features a "shipwreck"--a 70ft fishing boat that came ashore about 10 years ago and used to be high and dry on the beach. He discusses the forces that move the islands westward. We have lost over a mile of land at the north end of Cedar where I am, but added two miles of beach to the north.

So this really cool documentary popped up on PBS while flipping, about album photography, and how the "12 inch square" moved into an art form from mere packaging (starting with Meet the Beatles, they say) and how the black and white drew from jazz albums covers of the late 50's--because the subject artists, being Black, unintentionally portrayed that way. Lots of fun interviews with the crazies, too. I just saw one episode but I'm going to dig up the others.

Last night I watched the 1968 movie Bullitt. I mention it because there are folks round here who care a lot about mustangs and won't let the poor boy down.
