Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
series started last night and was outstanding. I especially liked hearing Rianna Giddens discussing the commonality among blacks and whites in the formation of the music; she and others dispel our common notion that country is for white folks--but they acknowledge the tense dynamic. part two is tonight and three tomorrow night. One hard thing about PBS is that they don't do a lot of re-runs. Don't miss it. series started last night and was outstanding. One hard thing about PBS is that they don't do a lot of re-runs. Don't miss it. "History of County Music" last night featured the singing cowboys, Bob Wills, the introduction of the pedal steel, the ASCAP/BMI issues, and the Grand Ol' Oprey. And as has been the case in the first episode, the Carter family weaves its influence throughout the story. ETA: The Hank Williams was outstanding and those amazing songs he just rolled out like taking dictation from God. I think his birthday was yesterday. Died at 29, a very tragic figure, and no where near his peak. Also great Chet Atkins, one of the top guitarists of all times; Tubbs, Flat and Scruggs who changed the music by playing it JRAD speed; Kitty Wells starting the "strong woman" aspect with It Wasn't God who made Honky Tonk Angels. You'll recognize the tune; it's written as a reply to The Wild Side of Life and is taken from "Blues Eyes" and "Great Speckled Bird". Tonight I think they will go into Johnny Cash and Elvis. That's why I love Highland County, the idea as much as the place. You won't see bumper stickers saying, "Let's Go to Mustoe!" My time spent there helps me understand better my peoples' lives in the past, such as is portrayed on The Waltons. That's why I love Highland County, the idea as much as the place. A police procedural where an INSANE number of murders happen in a supposedly small town/county in wyoming.
Nice scenery though, Katee Sackoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, 'tough' western cowboy sheriffs.
Turn it on, turn my brain off.
Netflix has 6 seasons of it! haha no clue how it made it to that many.

I enjoyed Longmire, mostly for the scenery.

Tonight--Hank Williams!
It was a strange juxtaposition when I flipped the channel from that show to Glastonbury 2017 and Foo Fighters. The documentary keeps insisting that all American popular music is derived from country/blues (and how close they are to each other) but sweaty growling Dave Grohl didn't seem to be affected by it!

I recall the episode when they built a highway through--probably Rt. 6. They regarded it as a huge intrusion, but to some, an opportunity, and not just for the new cuisine it presented. Today a road that size is barely noticed.

I always get tickled when I tell potential visitors how much in the boonies we are in Highland & they respond it sounds great & they can't wait to live in the mountains. By the time they get here many are ready to run back to "civilization" & never return. 🤣
