Breaking! LOCKN' Tickets

 Not at all, I'd rather it were a bit smaller. I consider this good news.  So when they  I can  and without being all ed.

I think they're competing more w/ the weather than anything.

I have to disagree with this. I don't really feel like there is a lot of competition. DeadCO & TTb would be be great but it's not a festival killer by any means. Really don't see that they need much help and certainly don't anticipate a loss. I don't read anything into this one day extension. Probably just had more to do with the last day being a Sunday more than anything, who knows.

Being an eternal optimist is not always what it's cracked up to be...

Yep, the lineup this year just is not conducive to a lot of sales at this price point and I thought this was a sign of limited sales when i got the email. There just isn't much this year we haven't already seen at lockn. I feel like lockn certainly could have benefitted from branching out some more (in multiple years, not just this one) and added acts which still fit the improvisational spirit but also add more variety to the lineup both in a given year as well as looking at the festival acts from all years as a whole.
 
- They do seem to be locked in to this location so maybe future lockns (hopefully this year as well) will find a groove which can generate enough profit to keep this awesome festival going.

Still disagree with this. Here is a list of LFF who are going to Bristow many of which have been doing multiple DeadCO shows, some of them CO and West Coast shows as well as also attending LOCKN. I just believe that DeadCO is going to have almost zero impact on LOCKN ticket sales. I know that this is only a small fraction of attendees but would be interested to see if anyone can produce a list of five or more people who say they aren't coming because they bought DeadCO tickets.

I know I'm in the minority but I'm probably seeing like 10 D&C shows and I'll be at Lockn....I get it that not every one is as obsessed as me but I don't think D&C are stealing much from Lockn. I also wouldn't read into this extra day at Tier 1 prices, every festival does this. Its a way to get those on the fence about going to just take the plunge and say "fuck it ill just get tickets before they go up, I can always sell them later". If sales are down I think its more due to the fact that there isn't really a "HUGE" headliner, you have Peach two weeks prior with a very similar line up, and this line up is very similar to other years. On the last point they are kind of damned if they do damned if they don't. Change up the line up too much and you piss off your "base" (see: this board last year), keep things the same and you don't attract too many new fans and you get people saying "been there done that". I've said this before but these festivals have to balance selling a HUGE rare experience while also appeasing the majority of us which basically want the same thing every year.

I think all of this talk about low ticket sales will be similar to last years "change of direction!!". We'll post and speculate about it all year, all of us will have our different conspiracy theories, and our different speculation about what Shapiro and Frey will do to address it. They won't do anything to address it, we'll all go to the fest and have a blast, and when we all get home we'll forget that anyone was worried about less sales.

Well, I'm certainly not against a little speculation.

The organizers say that the new main field is as large or larger than the old main show field.  I'm still not sure I believe that, but I guess I am coming around.

I find the Lockn organizer's social media and marketing strategy a bit idiosyncratic and mystifying.  I cannot discern any trends from them.  They seem to change a bunch of things every year.

I do guessing along with them. Just not sure the ticket sales and front facing/PR/Sales operations are very correlated.

Gotta see it to get it... I personally think this will be a great new feel and vibe. As I stood atop Blue Ridge Bowl imagining 20K people in the field (new field) Infinity Downs, my minds eye got it. 

The announcement of extending it 24 hours just gives them on more opportunity to get the Lockn brand name out there in front of people.

It does seem like the single-day tickets are going on sale a lot earlier than in previous years, but I could be wrong on that. Not sure that's indicative of anything, but is really the only difference I see.
