Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
This is all true. Dead & Co. took out a lot of fans who would otherwise come to the traditionally Dead-centric Lockn. That's the people who are travelling to see shows and travelling to multiple shows. Few will do three out-of-town Deadco's and then 3 day Lockn in the same summer. This is all true. The only thing that's certain is that no one here knows, and the people upstairs can only speculate, too--but their speculation will be better informed. So at this point, it doesn't matter. After it's over, it's not likely anyone will know for certain which of the many factors helped, and hurt, sales. Many things can happen between now and That One Thursday Night in August, too. PS: what's "LFF"? Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

Got this email today. IMO, further evidence ticket sales way down.

There's nothing that's going to help them this year. But it could mean big changes for next year, especially if they end up with a loss.

- They do seem to be locked in to this location so maybe future lockns (hopefully this year as well) will find a groove which can generate enough profit to keep this awesome festival going.
Just my opinion.

I think all of this talk about low ticket sales will be similar to last years "change of direction!!". We'll post and speculate about it all year, all of us will have our different conspiracy theories, and our different speculation about what Shapiro and Frey will do to address it. They won't do anything to address it, we'll all go to the fest and have a blast, and when we all get home we'll forget that anyone was worried about less sales.

I do not have the information base to make anything but speculative posts about ticket sales. I'm not sure how many other people have a larger information base.

Just seems like the combination of the downsize of the site with various social media posts indicate that they are still scrambling to try and generate a ton of interest. Like I said, it is just the way it looks to me based on an outsiders view of the Lockn staff's marketing and I could certainly be way off base.
I just find this kind of thing interesting, i've been curious about the long term prospects of Lockn since the first year because of the lack of available "Headliner" artists available in this genre and enjoy seeing how it all plays out.

Well, I'm certainly not against a little speculation.
The organizers say that the new main field is as large or larger than the old main show field. I'm still not sure I believe that, but I guess I am coming around.
I find the Lockn organizer's social media and marketing strategy a bit idiosyncratic and mystifying. I cannot discern any trends from them. They seem to change a bunch of things every year.
I do guessing along with them. Just not sure the ticket sales and front facing/PR/Sales operations are very correlated.

Gotta see it to get it... I personally think this will be a great new feel and vibe. As I stood atop Blue Ridge Bowl imagining 20K people in the field (new field) Infinity Downs, my minds eye got it.

The view I got--that DeadCo will hurt Lockn ticket sales--came from the top (but not Dave/Pete. No attribution at this time). But that isn't saying "kill" and it isn't saying that it's enough to spin Lockn, either. By no means does it imply there will be anything bad about Lockn' and for us on the ground, as CBill pointed out, a smaller crowd is more pleasant.
I suspect that the seemingly random way of rolling out ticket sales is like the band announcements--all carefully planned long before. But the randomness also allows flexibility as they go along.
So overall it all looks great! I just find the workings fascinating.
