I went to a college baseball game the other day in a venue I have visited for years.  Crowds range from 1500 to 5000. No alcohol.  This year they have a new rule - you can't take any bags in unless they are clear, including women's purses.  Lot of ladies unhappily heading back to their cars to get rid of their bags, because hooda thought?

BTW, two of my daughters are at No-backpack Bonnaroo now, and the ban has not in any conceivable way been an impediment to the massive amount of fun they are having.

I can't fit everything into a fanny pack. Or fit into a fanny pack...

Only if they come in super extra wide with ankle support.  Fred Flintstone feet are hard to shod!

security theater needs new props. I think the clear bag is begging for some hi-jinx. Put a big tube of preparation H, a bible and a giant dildo in there.

They've had metal detectors at Peach at least since I've been going. They never do anything when they beep anyway.

They had them at Atlanta, and it was advertised as no backpacks. That's fine for a stand-alone SHOW, but I feel this is more about preventing you from having a water bladder, so you buy more beer, than any kind of security.

If females are still allowed their purses, this amounts to blatant discrimination.

Purses always get searched.  This is why I wear skirts with hidden giant pockets.

I like to toss those sorts of things, including large boxes of condoms, into people's shopping carts when they aren't looking.

Since traffic seems to be picking up, lets just get this over with. Whats the security like?

First there are two encounters; the first being on driving in and the second in walking into the showfield; the discussion so far has been the latter and let's stick with that.

It's different every year. Last year much more thorough than year's previous years, including bringing in some experienced gate-keepers who work other events like Nascar--and were good at catching stuff. One of the business guys involved told me the whole industry was concerned about "another Spain or London" and a couple weeks later, Las Vegas. That pretty much ices it.

So while they will take food and drinks they encounter, the purpose is primarily safety. Hardware.

I expect metal detectors and bag size restrictions this year. Just because of a handful of assholes, our good times are diminished every where we go.

I don't go to major sporting events but I assume they are the same now?

Also last year, a friend stashed a cooler wagon outside the gate in the bushes. I bet they look for, and grab, any unattended bags, etc. this year.
