Never heard of the IX Art Park but from satellite it looks like a warehouse next to a small shopping center with no parking and little grass. Hardly feels like a "festival". Nothing on the Festy website at all but they took down all the historical references. Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

The 10th Annual Festy will be moving this year for the first time from rural Nelson County to downtown Charlottesville, Virginia, and take place at the IX Art Park. The Festy will be focused on 'Music & Mindfulness', and will continue to build on its roots as a family-friendly, eco-friendly, world-class music event, that takes a mindful approach to the entire festival experience.

I just attended Shaky Knees in Atlanta. It's also an urban-style festival and I must say I am not a big fan after attending one. Parking issues, nowhere to go in inclement weather, having to rely on festival food for meals, etc. It gets expensive booking hotel rooms for 3-4 nights.

Exactly the reason I've always avoided Charm City Bluegrass Festival. City fests are not my thing. And it makes me sad. I really liked Festy at the farm.I just attended Shaky Knees in Atlanta. A Message from our Founders
Ever since its founding in 2010, The Festy has focused on being a family-friendly, environmentally friendly, world class music festival.
For its first six years, The Festy was hosted at Devils Backbone Brewery in Nelson County, Virginia, and in 2016 we moved the festival to a larger location at Infinity Downs Farm in rural Nelson County, home of Lockn’.
After three years hosting our event at Infinity Downs Farm, we took a hard look at our core values of being a family-friendly and environmentally-friendly festival that showcases world-class music, and realized we could better achieve our mission by bringing the festival closer into a population center, to gain better access to family-friendly accommodations and amenities, public and ride-share transportation, and world-class hospitality options for both fans and artists.
Charlottesville has been our home for over 20 years. It is a town we care deeply about, and a place that has never been in greater need of the positive vibes and community spirit provided by The Festy. We’re excited to play a small role in the healing and rebirth of our hometown on the world stage by bringing The Festy to where it can do the greatest good.
After evaluating all our options, we decided we could create the best experience for our fans and artists, and celebrate the first decade of our event, by hosting the 10th Annual Festy at IX Art Park in Charlottesville, Virginia, two short blocks from the downtown pedestrian walking mall. While there will be no on site camping this year, we are a short walk or Uber ride from 30 hotels and hundreds of quality Airbnb’s – urban camping at its finest!
We know that a lot of folks who have always experienced The Festy as a rural camping festival may be disappointed with this news. For those in this group, we invite you to attend one or more of the many great options you have in Virginia with our sister festivals: Red Wing Roots, Rooster Walk, Hoopla, Floydfest, and Lockn’.
However, for those of you looking to experience the best family-friendly, eco-friendly, world class music festival in Central Virginia, conveniently located in beautiful downtown Charlottesville, we hope you’ll join us at The Festy this year at IX Art Park on October 11-13. Weekend bracelets will go on sale for $99 on June 15, and our most diverse lineup ever will be announced on July 1.

Every time I read the location of the Festy I see "ICK Art Park", and after looking at the site on google satellite maps I think that may be a better name for it...It looks like it would be a great filming set for a post-apocalypse movie...

I'm just doing my part to maybe help a small festival survive and maybe even thrive. The new setup may not be your thing or my thing but it may be somebody else's new thing and I will do what I can to help promote it.

Well, I bitched about the new site but immediately went and booked a room in a $80 per night B&B about a mile from the site. So I am trying to support it also even though the place isn't optimal.

Ix Park is about three blocks south of Downtown Charlottesville.
Ix Park is more or less an art collective, and we have seen many interesting bands there, for free. With food trucks.
Ix Park is adjacent to Three Notched Brewery, a nice and very new facility. And it is close to Brazos Tacos, home of cheap eats.
Ix is the name of the family that once owned this industrial setting.

More people to buy tickets.
Attendees provide their own meals and lodging and festival doesn't have to pay for them.
More fans will stay in hotels, etc. than want to camp.
Urban beats rural.
Understand I'm not faulting them for moving to the money to stay in business, and there is something positive to be said for more people being able to go (up until the point of compaction). No reason those who go won't have a good time.

Festy is taking an absolute beating on the Facebook comments section. So much so they had to make an official statement. What a terrible decision. This will be one and done.
