Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
Maybe it's just the camping only keeps too many people away? You can see the available spaces from the set-up at lockn'. Remember that great site plan with the individual sites drawn in? I don't recall if it shows property lines, though. With that, you can do arithmetic instead of math. But your method above (IKYK) left out a crucial component: campground operational costs, which aren't spread out over a camping season the way an established campground could or having several events. Site prep: mowing and lines. Insurance. Staff to work gates, park, clear trash, clean up. Insurance. Potable water--set-up, test and supervise. Insurance. Sanitation; rental, clean-out. Showers and gray water drainage. Insurance. Lighting and other safety, including barricades around "dangerous" areas. Insurance. Concessions. Weather contingency (hard rain, mud, wind). Trash disposal costs. Medical staff. Since all of these expenses have to be greater for one or two events (per head/per event) than if spread out over several events, I have wondered why they don't have more events there, even non-musical events. Who knows, maybe they try. But compare those costs to this: Everyone gets his own hotel room (or KOA site nearby) and you don't have to deal with it: $0. You can see the available spaces from the set-up at lockn'. Remember that great site plan with the individual sites drawn in? I don't recall if it shows property lines, though. Yes and that's why I put in "IKYK" in reference to "your method." There have been similar posts around here that I suspect were not ("Of course they are making money. Look what they charge for beer"). This isn't a keg party with a band and a cover. I'm very interested in the business and production side and try to learn as much as I can about it, and like to share what I find out. When I'm there, marvel at all the moving parts and how they work, or not, and what they cost. But the most important factor is invisible: the financing. They have sunk a lot of money into the ground there: the stage and light booth, roads and bridges and erosion control, power in ground in the RV areas, etc. and even buying Hammegeddon! Which is why I go back to this: Only once or twice a year? I remember as Bonnaroo became successful they bought land and installed facilities--is that location used for other events? Then again, they have a very different scale than Infiniti Downs. IKYK = I Know You Know Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

I guess I could go on Google Earth and calculate how much space Infinity Downs has available for camping, divide that by the number of 20 x 50 sites available, look up how much Frey owes on the land, subtract the acreage taken up by RV sites from the total acreage and somehow using the maths figure out what you would have to charge for a site to make some profit off of the land, but I won't...

I am writing to invite you to continue the journey of the Festy. If you have attended the Festy in the past, I thank you deeply for your support. And if you haven’t heard already, after nine years of producing a bluegrass-focused camping festival in Nelson County, Virginia, we have decided to diversify the music lineup and relocate the experience to our home of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Why, you ask? It wasn’t a simple conclusion, but in two important ways it was something we just had to do.
First, my continued interest in producing the Festy over the last decade has been inspired by the opportunity to create an event unlike any other. Specifically, more than your average festival, the Festy has always been focused on showcasing world-class talent, creating a family-friendly atmosphere, and doing it all with the smallest environmental footprint possible. Over the years we were able to design some great programming for families and haven’t had single-use plastic since 2010. But feedback over the years showcased how many families were discouraged from attending because of our remote location. And despite our environmental programs, the carbon-footprint and waste produced by the event was driven by our remote location and lack of on-site infrastructure.
Secondly, Charlottesville needs the Festy community, now more than ever. Charlottesville has been my home for over 20 years and over the last two years, the world has been told a story about Charlottesville that simply isn’t true. Charlottesville has never been in greater need of the positive vibes and community spirit provided by the Festy. We’re excited to play a small role in the healing and rebirth of our hometown on the world stage by bringing the Festy to where it can do the greatest good.
With these factors in mind, I’ve partnered with my friend and entrepreneur Adam Healey who has also been a long-time resident of Charlottesville to redesign the event and experience for the long-term. After evaluating all our options, we decided we could create the best experience for you and our artists by hosting the 10th Annual Festy at IX Art Park in Charlottesville, Virginia. The new location is just two short blocks from the downtown pedestrian walking mall and we hope that the Festy community will choose to spend a full weekend hanging out in Charlottesville and experiencing all this amazing place has to offer.
If the only reason you’ve attending the Festy in the past is to camp in the Blue Ridge and stumble to your tent after a show, that’s no longer on the program. However, for those of you looking to experience the best family-friendly, eco-friendly, world class music festival in Virginia, conveniently located in beautiful downtown Charlottesville, we hope you’ll join us at the Festy this year at IX Art Park on October 11-13.
Weekend passes go on sale Monday for only $99, and our most diverse lineup ever will be announced on July 1. We hope you will continue to take this journey with us.

See you at the park,

With that being said buh-bye, plus your grammar sucks. Turning your back on the tent-stumblers that helped build Festy to where it is, I mean was...

A BS: Charlottesville has never been in greater need of the positive vibes and community spirit provided by the Festy.
Averages out to "meh".
Trading that beautiful farm setting for a parking lot party is not the "change of direction" I'd want. Wait and see how the music changes, too. Pure bluegrass in C-ville won't sell.

The Omni is a 1/2 mile away, but it's the only place that's convenient walking distance. Unless you luck out with an Air-BNB or something. Or Uber around. Which seems to be what they are suggesting for this: Stay in an Air-BNB and Uber your way around. Sounds like great fun.
And then you get to pay $99 bucks for entry to the "park", which is not really a park at all. It's a lot with some warehouse buildings on it, including a creamery and a produce distributor.
No thanks. The RVA Folk Festival is just as much fun, totally free admission, and I can Uber to my house to sleep.
