Lockn' 2020: The Early Days

The band was formed in Charlottesville over 30 years ago, and many of its members live there and are well known in the community. Dave, from South Africa originally, and his wife, a Sweet Brier College alumna, live in Seattle. Tim lives in Nag's Head. But no question, he and the band have a huge central Virginia draw, and they like to maintain a presence there. But as one of the biggest touring bands ever, it has a national scope and is far from a local act now.

Fun fact, one of the people in our Lockn crew got married in 1992 and DMB was the runner up for the reception gig. He picked a band that played some light jazz while the parents were there and then raged until 3:00 am playing Dead when I finally unplugged my blinking bow tie and stumbled into my tent.

Steering this ship back on topic...let's keep this discussion to band speculation please. In the "off season" I prefer to let the discussion ramble somewhat if it needs to but still need to nudge it back in line from time to time...

In that case, I'm hoping for SRV tribute with Double Trouble. Johnny Slayer's tour with them was great. Maybe Derek a few tunes, Mayer a few, etc gunslinger after gunslinger paying have to the GOAT. Plus make late night ragers, with Umphreys, maybe a Mule tribute of sorts. Maybe Stafford.

DMB formed in cville in 1991.  Played at the long gone Trax venue every Tuesday night.

It probably was the early 90's when that was going on. Capshaw owned Tracks in C'Ville and the Flood Zone in Richmond, so it makes sense they were doing shows at both places back in the day.

Hoping for some Cheese and Panic in 2020.

More Oteil & Friends would be cool.

Get Bonnie Raitt there and have her jam with TTB.

Add Alison Krauss and I might just melt right there on the show field.

That is a great list!

I think that a blend of Dead (Melvin, JRAD, DSO) Americana (Raitt, Earle, Keen) new grass (Krauss, GSBG, OCMS) and jam bands with younger followings (moe., spafford, moon alice) plus some fun variety like St. Paul would serve the fest well. As long as they exclude electronica/EDM and glam rock has-beens!

Exactly what happened. Pissed off one of my friends because they didn't consult him before changing the date and he received a refund and hasn't been back.
