while i am at it...can i bring in a DSLR camera with a stubby lens. FAQ says 'without additional lens'. I assume they are worried about professionals, which i am not,by any sense of the word. i have a point/shoot, but the pics suck and my phone is just as good. would rather bring a basic DSLR with standard, non-giganto-zoom lens.

The security people were pretty cool last year (at least the ones I encountered) I was parked in the day parking lot so I had a stocked cooler with beer and mixed drinks. You could go to your car and walk back to the fest and stop just outside the security gate and they would let you finish your drinks without a hassle and you could see and hear just fine from there. The FAQ just says "no coolers" in the concert area. Does that mean I can walk in with a beer in hand, or two or three in my pocket? I wouldn't bother with a cooler anyway, but a couple of beers in a backpack is standard issue in my army of one.

Well, there are many definitions of dry when it comes to a festival in Oregon. The liquor board does not want people to bring their own stuff in (unlike Lockn), but once you pass through the venue gates (where they check your bags) from camping areas, there are micro-brews for sale, usually Rogue or Ninkasi. Some years there's a cocktail tent too. The way we get around this: We bring a decoy tent that we set up inside the venue, where the vendors camp. We do this before gate security begins their first shift on Thursday. It's our satellite bar. String Summit is an amazing weekend of string music, so relaxed, as they cap the attendance at around 5,000.

You are correct I was just blown away by the reply is all. Thank you for bringing this side to my attention.
Though this would be much fun, may I be a voice of reason that suggests you not call undue attention to someone on the inside trying to help you out? Who knows what next year will look like, at this rate? I've decided that I'm going to take there Email save it leave my hammer out in the open. Let them see it and then show them the Email. Then bitch like hell when they decide to take it.

When they took our hammer last year, they said it was because it was claw foot, but you could have ball peen or a rubber mallet. I never could get a response when asked what they did with all of them. The folks that searched our car were nice, but also very very thorough. We had the hammer in the tool box and they didn't mess with any other tools.

I was going thru some of my stuff just now, and happened across a jar of Apple Pie moonshine from the last Wanee fest. Dont cha just hate when that happens?

For the concert site, Lock'n says you can't bring in a cooler or food. Ok, but can I bring in a small backpack with sunscreen, chap-stick, water bottles (that may or may not be factory sealed), towel to sit on, insect repellant, poncho, etc? Are they going to search my bag? If my water bottles are not factory-sealed, are they gonna make me pour them out?

You can bring most of that in but your water bottles must be factory sealed or they will make you pour it out. They have refill stations inside. They will search your bag. It's likely Lockn will keep a closer eye on things since the ABC will be keeping an even closer eye on things.
It's too bad they have to let ABC undercovers on site at all but that's how the licensing works.
Here's another question--how do they search a pop-up camper at the entrance?

Why? Are you planning to do something highly illegal?
That being said, mounted patrols ride through from time to time. But I can't speak to undercovers. I couldn't spot one if I had to, but I generally don't break laws so don't worry about it.

In all seriousness when you get police walking through the campgrounds it definitely hurts the vibe. The Mounted patrols that you see at bonnaroo and other festivals who are there to keep the peace are fine. But i have seen cops in full swat gear and that is completely unnecessary.

While it may be unnecessary, if that's how they choose to patrol, it is what it is. This is Virginia...not Colorado or Washington so.....Why? Are you planning to do something highly illegal?

That was one of the problems last year (among many other things)...they were making pop-up campers "open" so they could search them. I think at one point they just gave up on that idea. This year....your guess is as good as mine.

Roger on the pop-ups. VIP search area was making all Pop-Ups completely open up so they could search. I watched them confiscate plates out of rv's and hammers from tool kits that were in RV rental tool boxes.

good for them to say that. makes my husband and I feel better anyway. creative packing. use common sense. it'll all be good! Just got an answer from Lockin in reference to the hammer issue. The stated and I quote " yes you may by all means bring and use a hammer to assist you in the setup of your tent. But I suggest you hide it in a secure location on your way into lockin"
