Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
When I was young and the world was new, there wasn't such an animal as VIP at festivals. We all paid the same price, heard the same music and had the same views on the field. Then VIP started, and while I can't fault festivals for making a few extra bucks, it's a phenomenon I hate because it's divisive, smacks of elitism, and totally goes against the grain of what these festivals were all about in the first place--good music that all can share with no ideological, cultural or monetary boundaries. Maybe I'm seeing the world through rose colored glasses, but I miss that feeling of unity. And I certainly have no hard feelings (maybe a little jealousy ) against you ballers out there, I just wish it were the good ol' days! OK, gotta go get in line for shoulder ride duty... Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.
For you ballers out there

bummer!!
Frey also said in original interview that VIP would have a dedicated entrance directly into the VIP viewing area. I think it will be on the side(right side according to map) like year 1

It is a conundrum for fest organizers doing VIP to optimize the situation. It's easier to put VIP off to the side, easier to integrate the entrance, services (bars/eats/bathrooms etc) and viewing than it is to put that viewing area in the middle (which is definitely a better view) and try to offer services within that area. And yes, GA patrons get a little angry when all the front-of-stage is perceived to be given to VIPs. There's some politicking going on with that decision for many fests. But I find the "off to the side" to be a little mixed results at many fests - the view isn't often "prime", although I can get to a place rather easily that's still in the best 40% of the house.

Yep, the reason my wife and I became addicted to big fest VIP is the ease of seeing more music , closer, without having to post up for hours and miss sets in order to get a good spot. Teh advantage of being able to bounce between stages and get at worst decent sightlines with no wait is huge and allows us to see way more bands in a day.
However, at a setup like this where there is only one act and one stage at a time, alot of that advantage is removed. So while I totally understand why they need to move VIP out of the dead center area, at least in my opinion the sound and sightlines better still be excellent, not just a small wedge to the side, or what are we paying for?

All nice, but really not worth $1g, which is even considerably more than what alot of larger fests charge. Need the viewing area to be remotely worth it.

One question I did have for those who have done VIP before: Obviously there is an entrance to the VIP campground from the general campgrounds and not just from inside the venue. In years past, where was this? Behind shakedown last year?

Agreed. I spend that $ for the view and sound. Some free food and all the water I can down are my perks.
