Railroad Earth’s Franklin’s Tower / Walk on the Wild Side / Franklin’s Tower was very well done.

Great Festy, but not one of the best ones I've been to. I'm guessing they cut the festival size almost in half compared to past events. It was all Blue Ridge Bowl, up the hill where they had some merch/beer, and then the food court behind it. No complaints about size....plenty of space and walking up to the stage was doable at any time. Much more family oriented. More kids then I've seen before, again no complaints, but somehow felt more 'sterilized' then before. From what I've read about Lockn they are continuing to try and cut costs, for example no printed schedules, the kleen canteens came with a sticker to put on it rather than printed right on the cup, fewer portapots and so on. Not sure what balance they are trying for with cost vs income but they still aren't there yet.
90% of the music was phenomenal. Hackensaw and Lil Smokies were really good, Fruition was great Greensky is, well Greensky and both sets were great. Connells were meh but glad I got to see them. Last year Della Mae was a highlight and I'm glad some of my fellow forum fam felt the same way this year. Great energy and talent there. Sam Bush was amazing, and I was pretty sure last time I saw Rubblebucket I wasn't impressed and walking back to my tent when they started confirmed that. Billy Strings is the next gen flat picker and someone I'd go see within an hour or two of home every time. Also great watching him make new converts. I might be in the minority here, but I thought Carbon Leaf was fantastic. But, I'm also biased since they are one of the few bands still together that I've been going to see for years, and they are from Richmond. Still, the dance area was 1/2 full at start and packed at the end, so they brought the energy and a little something different for the Festy crowd. Railroad Earth was fine...I was mentally and physically exhausted at that point and only made it till the early part of 2nd set. They are also playing in Richmond this December with South Hill Banks for South Hill Snowdown so I knew I'd see them again soon.
Great seeing my family, camping with Sneake and Lobster was fun except for the fact that we were near the only portapots in our camping area highlighted by a spotlight you could see from space. Fortunately, it was on a timer.
TL;DR: 8/10 would do again

100% this. I’m a big fan of Greensky and Sam Bush (who uncharacteristically delivered a very different set list from the other three times I saw him in the last twelve months) but Della Mae rocked it. Want to mention Allison Brown’s set as another standout. And young Mr William Apostol continues to slay.
