So this really cool documentary popped up on PBS while flipping, about album photography, and how the "12 inch square" moved into an art form from mere packaging (starting with Meet the Beatles, they say) and how the black and white drew from jazz albums covers of the late 50's--because the subject artists, being Black, unintentionally portrayed that way. Lots of fun interviews with the crazies, too. I just saw one episode but I'm going to dig up the others.

interesting take on how music is stitched together. I read that they used 16 different guitars to make the song Layla. so in the intro, the first phrase was one and the second another, even though both might be played by the same guy (Clapton? Bramhall?). we tend to think of a live show or jam session with musicians playing with or against each other, but the studio is nothing like that. And why Layla is hard to play live--running the guitar tech all over the place.

It all goes back to getting the Federal standards in synch with, or at least looser than, the state standards. it would solve so many problems, including the cash crime banking debacle. Then, if a state or locality wants to be anti, it can be (unlike a Constutional issue).

Here's a nice nature video about Virginia's barrier islands, where I have spend my free time for almost 60 years (Cedar Island).

He features a "shipwreck"--a 70ft fishing boat that came ashore about 10 years ago and used to be high and dry on the beach. He discusses the forces that move the islands westward. We have lost over a mile of land at the north end of Cedar where I am, but added two miles of beach to the north.

Southern Culture on the Skids--Saturday night in VaBeach
They never disappoint. Opening with a Link Wray sound, closing with a psychedelic jam of Dear Mr. Fantasy and a killer Dick Dale "Meximelt" in between.

Just a beatnik shredding guitar, a big hair go-go boots on bass and a stand-up drum kit, fills the room like a tornado in a trailer park (opening band, from Hampton, was "Tornado Bait" btw). Singing about '69 El Camino, a "Dirt Track Date", doing the Camel Walk, and "Too Much Pork for Just One Fork." Pure Norf Car'lina.

Love to see these guys in an afternoon slot at a festival near by.

interesting spice--can you taste the lime? Does it have a lot of cumin like chili powder? Maybe paprika, cayenne, salt and lime zest for home made? will look for it.
