There was a guy in town when I was growing up who we referred to as "The Doobie Brother", he looked like Patrick Simmons with his long hair... I was at a small fest last weekend and when I was walking across the show field this dude yells "You can't hide behind those whiskers forever" at me. Was walking into a store today and some guy that looked like he was straight out of Lynyrd Skynyrd said, "Hey man, nice fuck you beard." I didn't even know what to say. I laughed and thanked him.
It stopped me dead in my tracks. So I walked up to him and said "Your right. How did you know." He told me that until recently he looked just like me but it had to end. His wife looked at me and said "Thank God. I've been waiting for years." Me and the dude high fived and I walked away still stunned.

It looks like I'll be getting a new job soon, coming with a BIG pay bump. So thats good and I'm thankful.
I'm not sure though if my current company will come after me for violating my non-compete. It's kind of a grey area as to whether I'm actually violating it, so who knows what will happen if they do. So thats super stressful, I've not been sleeping and its all I think about. So I'm not thankful for that. Non-competes suck.

Congratulations on the new job and pay bump! I'm a mechanical engineer for a conveyor company in Lynchburg. Lynchburg is the conveyor capital of the world. There must be a dozen companies here that do similar stuff and they are all spinoffs of the one that I work at. When we were bought out in 2005 management demanded that all of the engineers sign a no-compete document. We all banded together and refused. They let it go and moved on. If we signed a no-compete we don't work if we leave here, at least in this industry, in this town. It looks like I'll be getting a new job soon, coming with a BIG pay bump. So thats good and I'm thankful.
I'm not sure though if my current company will come after me for violating my non-compete. It's kind of a grey area as to whether I'm actually violating it, so who knows what will happen if they do. I have been through that scenario as well. (Consultant that left the company and went independent with the same client). It was stressful, but I just talked to the president and explained what I wanted to do. We worked out a deal where I stayed for an additional 30 days and then left. People have so many opinions about non-competes.She said I'd probably win (because of the grey area I mentioned) but if it gets that far the costs would far exceed any bump id get.

having an opportunity to meet up with forumites and their friends at Peach. slypknot , looseankles , Just Bob, their buddy "Whatever" Bob, SpaceAmy , and scrappy . Always awesome to establish a group spot. I tried to rename Just Bob to Spaghetti Legs. Doesn't Loose Ankles and Spaghetti Legs sound so cute?
Edit: For the record Just Bob was not quite receptive to my re-branding efforts. So I'm continuing to call him Just Bob.

I am very thankful that I woke up out of general anesthesia yesterday. Before I went under I thought about all the things I was grateful for in my life and the Lockn Forum was one of them. I love the humor, discussions, advice, sarcasm, kindness and above all the fantastic people I have met through here. I held you all in my heart when I went for my little sleep.
The Dr told Bob that my surgery went well. I was able to go home after a couple hour stay in the recovery room. Unfortunately the anesthesia and pain meds made me very nauseous and sick. Thankfully I am feeling better this morning and can switch to just Tylenol for pain. I will have to lay low for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully at my follow-up appt next week my doctor will give me a thumbs up to go to Lockn. I’m pretty sure dancing will be out though. Might need to temporarily change my name to Toe Tapper Head Bobber.

Please send me your doctor's name and address so that I can send him a stern note as to why he MUST approve your trip to LOCKN. This is non-negotiable...
