Peach Festival 2019

I think this is a really interesting foreshadow of Lockn. What happens when the forefathers of a fest (Allmans for Peach) die off? Maybe the answer is just a regional jamfest, but I think that any differentiation is completely lost now, as exampled by these headliners. I'm not talking about whether I like the headliners or not, but that this lineup could be at any fest. Lockn' probably has longer legs as more people have covered the Dead and that could always be an underlining theme, but if some differentiator is not being worked on now, it will be too late once the boys pass on or quit touring. Maybe Lockn ends then too or they just re-brand completely as a different fest. I have just been disappointed with Lockn not building in a secondary audience to GD/jam. Partly it's selfish because I think they could include newer, more hip non-jam acts that have a following, but I also just think it is short sighted on their part. If the Lockn undercard looked more like High Water, I think the overall attendance would increase and would give the fest a longer lifespan. Under the current path, Lockn will become even more indistinguishable from Peach over time, particularly if they don't have a lock on the GD members. Phil playing Peach dilutes Lockn's uniqueness and makes them just another option on the jamfest circuit as opposed to a can't miss national event.
